This is a very unique trick. It's easy to preform but like everything you have to practice. This is an amazing effect and if you don't have it then BUY IT!
Bedford, MA • Aug 24th, 2015Believe is pure eye candy. Color changes/transpositions have a big impact on an audience. Joel has crafted a solid effect. Here's how I perform Believe: 1) Place the second/indifferent card, face down onto their open palm and have them place their other hand over it (it's actually their signed card) 2) Place the pip ONTO the back of their hand and make the change. 3) Then have them lift their hand (the one with the changed pip) and move it to the side and have them turn over the other card (their signed card ). With two people, place the card face down on the palm of one spectator and have the other spectator place their hand over this. Now you've involved more people in the effect. Now it's magic in their hands and... adds a bit more power to it.
New York City • Sep 9th, 2014Very good effect. Fairly difficult to get the moves down just right, but when you get it, it's one of the best impromptu effects I've ever seen. Well worth it.
Utah • Oct 13th, 2013I was shocked when I heard it was impromptu, the video also teaches you other sleights you can use in your performance.
United States • Jul 6th, 2013This is amazing and requires no gimmicks; I highly recommend it.
Hong Kong • May 5th, 2013This is an awesome trick!
Malaysia • Mar 6th, 2013This is a nice visual trick that might even work as a closer to some close-up magic. The teaching quality of Joel Paschall is nothing short of excellent. He is a great instructor. The effect itself is very good. The visual change of the corner is one that will leave audiences stumped. I really like this effect and it's well priced. It really does look great. It is easy to perform as well. I recommend it.
India • Mar 1st, 2013This is the best trick ever. It is pricey, but you won't regret it. It is an anywhere anytime trick. The teaching is also good, very clear. Five stars for the trick and for Joel Paschall!
England • Nov 19th, 2012Easy to do and impromptu, can't get better than that. Great advice and words from a legend.
Adelaide, Australia • Nov 1st, 2011If you are like me and figured out the trick and dont want to buy I suggest you BUY IT because it's the presentation and touch that matter not the number of sleights or the difficulty. It's about performing the basics perfectly and I strongly recommend this dvd!
Florida • Oct 22nd, 2011This is seriously one of the best kept secrets at T11. It is by far my favorite effect i have bought and it never fails to get great reactions. I am a Junior Member at the Magic Castle and I close all of my shows with this, and it creates an awesome souvenir that people will remember. It is a must buy for any magician.
Los Angeles , CA • Aug 14th, 2011I really love the effect of this trick! It's so simple that's why it's so great.
Manila, Philippines • Nov 30th, 2010The best money I have spent on magic. Buy it - you won't regret it.
San Jose, CA • Apr 17th, 2010Simply simple. Amazingly amazing. Enough said.
Nashville, TN • Apr 4th, 2010All I can say is WOW. It takes a few practice runs to get the major move down pat, but you will freak people out. I have spent a lot of money on card tricks and this one by far is the most well spent.
Montana • Nov 15th, 2009I love this trick. I have freaked so many people out using this trick. I really recommend this for beginners because it is very easy to do and the reactions are through the roof.
Los Angeles, CA • Oct 3rd, 2009I would just like to start by saying how much I love this effect. I don't tend to write reviews, however I believe that this one was an exception to that. Joel Paschall teaches very well and provides great instruction of the individual moves involved. He gives an in depth look at each of the sleights and provides extra tips and tricks which you can incorporate into the trick. The only downside I would say about the trick (without revealing the method) is that the final change can be a bit touchy and difficult, but varies depending on your method. All in all I gave this trick five stars. Joel has come up with an amazing, original piece of magic. He teaches the effect very well and I would highly advise everyone to purchase this trick as it can be used in many situations such as Ambitious Card Routines or as a one-off trick.
Newcastle • Jun 15th, 2009After my first truly successful performance of Joel Paschall's BeLieve ten minutes ago, I have decided that the effect is, in fact, the perfect opener. (Even without all the philosophical mumbo jumbo, fun as that may be. It depends on your spectator.) Plus, I don't have to worry about it out-competing other tricks I have learned from the Bucks and Mr. Kenner. Though it is starkly visual and is the best card switch seen by this author to date, it is fairly simple at heart and thus can be properly followed with more complex effects. The central theme here is versatility. Joel teaches a variety of specific sleights to use when performing, but there's any number of combinations of other sleights you could pair with the basic concept. (Any intermediate cardist might know a dozen sleights that would fit.) In fact, one can come to the trick and improvise (on the spot, while performing) a series of sleights to set up the final tearing and revelation. The "central concept" I've been referring to deserves more elaboration. It is fairly easy to do during magic practice time, but in the actual performance it's a little more knacky; though it's simple to preform the technical moves, you must control your audience, making sure they don't screw something up. You'll have to try this one a few times before really getting it down with spectators. Here's why BeLieve is such a good deal: the awe and confusion subjects experience can be easily continued into the next bit of your routine. The basic nature of what happens (something completely unexpected) takes them off their guard and murders their original expectations regarding "card tricks". It's the perfect framework on which to give them moments that they can truly enjoy, granted that you are really performing for their benefit. But I have a caveat: This trick will only satisfy real performers yearning to create a solid routine for real people to experience. It won't be much fun for midnight Theory11 surfers and bedroom flourishcians. All they will be left with is a bunch of torn cards in the rubbish bin, but when you go out and give the moment to real people, I think you'll consider the $20 a rather nominal fee. Ten out of ten.
Cumberland Plateau • Apr 27th, 2009This is a great effect. Joel is a great teacher and his insights into performing are almost as valuable as the trick itself. Like others have said, this is an extremely easy trick to do but it is the performance that makes it great and there are multiple ways to go with the patter and presentation. Another thing I love about this trick is its versatility in that it can be incorporated into a lot of different routines as a "phase" or just be a standalone trick. Needless to say, the reactions are great! If I had to do it again, I would definitely get this DVD!
Arizona • Mar 24th, 2009Wow. That's all I have to say. This trick to me, was extremely easy to learn. It requires no gimmick, nothing like that. The results are instant. This is genius. Quick and easy, worth every penny.
Lansdale, PA • Jan 24th, 2009Truly an amazing trick. No gimmicks. Impromptu. And for the most part, if you've been handling cards the sleights aren't too difficult. With that said let me tell you about an experience with this trick: I was at a high school doing some substitution work. One of the kids saw me playing with some cards and out of curiosity started asking what was with those. I did some simple quick tricks. Showing the top card then putting it in the middle of the deck and making it come right back to the top. One of the kids called me out. "Nah, you have multiple cards in there...let me sign one or something." I secretly smiled on the inside as I just happened to have a Sharpie in my pocket. He wrote his name. I lost his card in the deck. Flipped over the top card and FAILED! It wasn't his card. He laughed... until I said "Well, hmm... what if you BELIEVE this is your card." Confusing mounted. Looks of horror arised as I started ripping the card's corner. By this point I was just about fully surround by 30 or so kids and the teacher who had been watching what had been happening. With a wave of my hand...the corner changed to the kid's selected, signed card corner. "Well if that changed, then what happened to the rest of the card?" The room exploded as he flipped over the card on the table... This trick can be done being completely surrounded. THAT is something amazing. This is more than a trick. Joe has changed my life. This is worth every penny. And the memories and fun I've had with this are incredible. Thank you so much Joe.
Minnesota • Dec 27th, 2008Now before I begin this review I think it's only fair that I put out there that I know Joel. I am part of the California Magic Family and a regular performer at California Magic in Martinez. That said, I've know for a long time just how talented a magician and performer Joel is. I'm so glad that the rest of the Magic Community will now get to see that as well. Believe is impromptu, visually stunning, and has a real lasting impact on the people you perform it for. It's one of those effects that stun the audience when they see it, and stays with them long after you leave. Joel's technique is so clean and natural. When you watch him work with a deck of cards - even when you know the card sleights he is using - you go, "When did that happen?!" I'm a big fan of the psychology of magic. I think it is one of the most important aspects of performing for people and one that is overlooked by many magicians. I think that's why I enjoy Wayne Houchin's stuff so much. He ABSOLUTELY gets the psychology of the magic he creates - as does Joel. All I can say is awesome job Joel. And for those of you who are not familiar with Joel Paschall, believe me, you ain't seen nothing yet! Believe is just the beginning. Check it out. You won't be sorry you did.
Martinez, Ca • May 20th, 2008Genius! Its rare to come across such great impromptu effects within the magic world, and this is definitely one that I will be using. The vid was crisp (HD) as most vids are on theory11 and the teaching was great. A definite recommendation.
Brighton, UK • May 12th, 2008I got the download for this effect and it is simply brilliant. it took be about 8 minutes to download and as was so excited when it finished. The change is as visual as it is in the video. The trick is actually impromptu and uses no gimmicks. The bonus sleights are phenomenal and are so cool to perform. The trick is easy to perform and the hardest part for me is when the spectators are completely relaxed and aren't looking for a thing. This only takes a few minutes to learn and i highly recommend this trick. I would have payed more for this effect so it is definitely worth it. BUY THIS TRICK.
NYC • May 11th, 2008This is probably the highest impact impromptu card trick I've ever seen. The sleights will take some practice. Joel teaches some new modernized sleights that can easily be replaced by other easier sleights if you don't feel comfortable with the one's in the video. This isn't one of the easier effects to master on this site, but the work that it takes is definitely worth your spectators' reactions. This trick is incredible and I highly recommend it. I think it would be a great follow-up to Distortion for any true worker. You won't have any buyer's remorse with this purchase, I promise.
Oklahoma • May 10th, 2008I got this effect as a DVD Download, as I don't really mind not having it on DVD. There are probably extras that you get on the DVD, but not the Download, but I just wanted the effect; extras don't really concern me that much. This, after a few problems with MY computer, not the download, took about half an hour- forty-five minutes to download. The quality of the video, as usual for theory11, was great. I could see everything that was going on as if I was there. At first the video was a bit jumpy, but like always, it was probably my computer. After that it ran perfectly smooth, and I didn't have any problems at all. Dana and Wayne did a wonderful job editing this. It was put together very nicely, and looked dang cool. They got all the best angles for the teaching and performances. Good job, guys! The Teaching/Teacher: Joel is very quickly becoming one of my favorite theory11 artists. He has a nice personality, and just watching him perform makes you want to actually believe in magic. When he performed this effect, I was blown away for the first time in a long time. His patter, his personality, his handling; everything was perfect. When Joel teaches, he goes over everything you need to know to be able to perform this. He teaches this crazy One Handed Braue Reversal that looks good and gets done what you need done. It's very knacky, so it'll be a while before I'll be doing this. Joel teaches a very nice One Handed Double, which, like the One Handed Braue Reversal, looks good, but is pretty knacky. It reminds me a lot of Brian Tudor's One Handed Double, if you have seen it. However, Joel's is a little bit easier. This one is going to take a while before I'm doing it, as well. Gimmicks/Impromptuness: The demo video truly does not lie for this effect. Believe uses absolutely no gimmicks, and can be done anywhere, anytime, with any deck of cards. It relies purely on sleight of hand, and demo video is not misleading at all. The change is really that visual, and it really is as awesome as the demo makes it sound. When first buying this, I really was expecting there to be some PK Ring, magnet, or something else to achieve the change. The real method is almost diabolical, impromptu, and just as visual. The only problem I have with the change, and it is a tiny one, is that the changed piece is slightly moved, and is not in the same place as it was originally. But, if you do this right, your spectators will never notice. Difficulty: When going into this effect, I honestly expected not to be able to do it. I thought it was going to be that hard. And the truth is: it's not! It relies on a few basic sleights, plus a few things that are a little to quite knacky; some of which can be "replaced" or switched with other sleights that you already know. This effect is something that will need to be practiced quite a bit, as it is NOT one that you want to go out and flub up. You want to make this everything it can be, and you need to
theory11 forums • May 10th, 2008It's impromptu, no,gimmicks, no forces, no duplicates and, it's quite easy to perform. You can't really ask for more than this in magic. Sure it takes practice like all good magic tricks but it's well worth it. This is one of the best if not the best impromptu card trick Iv'e ever seen. More please Joel, More!
