Three X's drawn on the spectator's hand visibly transpose. A simple, beautiful miracle.

From the award-winning mind of Mathieu Bich comes eXile - the effect that kick started the latest David Blaine special with a bang. eXile takes place entirely on the spectator's own hand. Three small X's are drawn on someone's open palm. A quarter is placed in the center of their hand.

Slowly, you slide your fingers over each X, and they visually, instantly vanish. No sign of ink to be seen. Nothing. When the quarter is lifted, there are three perfect X's directly in the center of their palm.

The effect is taught in depth by Dan White, senior magic producer for David Blaine. Shot on location in the heart of New York City, USA. Comes with an instructional DVD and everything you need to learn it - and perform it.

eXile was performed across the country by David Blaine and his creative team in preparation for the Dive of Death special. It has been tested from coast to coast. From close-up performances in Paris, France by Mathieu Bich to the streets of New York - this is eXile.

I purchased this one it first was released and it is by far the best version of Voodoo Ashes out there. However, unlike most versions of Voodoo Ashes, this does require a significant amount of “set up”, but if you are looking to absolutely stun your spectators, this will 100% do that. I wouldn’t recommend this for the strolling magician, but fit into a closeup set this is the ultimate mind blowing illusion. It’s clean, it’s direct, and most importantly, the method is so far out of the realm of “magic principles” that you WILL fool everyone. Highly recommend this effect.

Just got it this week, and so far I can see why I saw a few comments about the method being disappointing, but I wasn't completely disappointed myself. We as magicians need to remind ourselves that there are countless amounts of tricks that are crazy powerful that the methods turn out to be simple, or disappointing. It's how we perform it that sells it to the crowd. Take sometime practicing it and find ways to MAKE it practical. Use some sleight of hand for a coin switch possibly. Make good use of your pocket. A great effect like this is certainly worth the extra effort. I'll give it 4 stars for great effect, but just wish it came with more refills. It's pretty pricey for what it offers.

Love the effect. However, the gimmicks to the trick are time sensitive, which makes this effect hard to perform in some situations. Overall, great effect! I would recommend it.

After reading many of the comments it seemed like this trick required having a full backpack's worth of gimmicks. After trying it a few times it requires very little storage space and is easy both to make and perform. It has a great effect and as far as angles go there are virtually no bad ones. The explanation on how to make the gimmicks and how to perform are eXcellent.

Gets great reactions, however. I don't like carrying around the things you need for this effect.

First, I'd like to say that it is worth every penny. Secondly, this is an amazing effect that is sure to have audiences blown away. Though the original performance is cool, the ideas that Dan gives are even better. The gimmick is really easy to make (10 mins) and it's something you can always have on you. This is going in my routine as of NOW!

I don't like this. You need so many pockets for this.

Exile is a pretty astonishing trick that happens in the spectator's hand. It is a really cool trick and I've loved the premise behind the effect ever since David Blaine did it on his special. But when I learned how it works, I was very disappointed. This isn't practical in anyway. As soon as you set this up, you need to do it literally within the next minute, otherwise it isn't going to work. Plus, I feel the method is quite obvious to a laymen, even if you follow the instructions perfectly. Nothing can be borrowed, so people may ask you, 'why can't you use my coin? There's a pen right here. Why not use that?' Overall, the premise to Exile is really nice but the flaws outweigh the good on a large scale. I strongly suggest you don't buy this, unless you want to fill up your bottom drawer with useless magic.

If someone asked me what my favourite trick was, I would probably say that it was eXile by Mathieu Bich.

Ever since I watched David Blaine's Dive of Death special, using Exile as his first effect totally blew me away. After I finally learned the name of the effect I immediately started to track down this effect and add it to my routine. Of course I did read all of the reviews contributed by other magicians who own the effect, but I never let a "difficult or time consuming" effect by the only reason to not purchase Exile. After ordering and then receiving Exile I was really blown away at how clever this coin effect truly is. So before I started to make the gimmick, I timed myself to see how long it would take. It literally took me about 10 minutes from creation to completion, and the fact that you really only need one, I had decided to make two. I had also read a rather long list of reviews on how some "magicians" claim this isn't practical and if you perform Exile there is no way you cannot be caught on how it works. Though I tried to find an answer about why they dislike this effect or find it impractical to the point of it shouldn't be performed, I never received any answer as to why. My only guess is that they never really took the time to practice and practice this effect, like all other magic effects and simply gave up cause it was too much work. I practiced this effect for one month, and more than half that time in front of a camcorder. After that I went down to some of my favorite performing locations, and Exile totally blew them away. Since I am mostly a card magician, I do try to add other magic genres to my performances, and I am happy to say that Exile was the perfect choice. Theory11 would never sell an item they did not personally believe in, and with the time you really need to dedicate to practice, will be so worth every effort you put into making this effect move flawlessly and smoothly, and you will have a coin effect that will leave your spectators wondering - can magic be real?

Before I decided to purchase this effect, I read all of the reviews and quite a few people thought that the setup was either hard work or time consuming. Because of that I didn't buy the effect right away, but after so many performances with a deck of cards, I wanted to mix things up a bit and add a coin effect, so I decided to buy Exile. After watching the (short) DVD and then I looked at the props provided, I laughed at how creative and clever this effect truly is. So I decided to time myself making the proper gimmick, and it was completed in 8 1/2 minutes. I decided to make another for back up in-case the unthinkable happens, and it took me roughly the same time frame, and now I won't ever have to make another for quite a long time. Exile is such a beautiful and elegant coin effect that has given me tremendously great reactions. This is the fourth coin effect I have in my collection and in my performance, and I have used it much more than the other coin effects. I just love performing this effect simply because the spectators FREAK at the final revelation. It's like a huge rush of adrenaline I get when I see people running around, screaming and showing either their friends or strangers who happened to be watching from a distance. Here's another great aspect for the effect and it is Exiles versatility. Dan White talks about various handling on the DVD and I have used them all and even came up with a few on my own. This is something I look forward to an effect that initially just shows one effect, yet gives you the possibility to use your imagination and come up with all sorts of crazy ways to get the X marks to move around and then end up under the quarter. Besides the original routine, I devised Exile to work in conjunction with the Coin Under Watch effect. Now this variation HITS HARD, and that's not at all an over exaggeration. The Coin under Watch is an amazing effect by itself, but combining it with Exile just takes it to new heights that I never thought possible with coin magic, mainly because I'm mostly a card magician. Of course there is some information lacking as to how to end clean, but I already knew the proper sleights to make it happen. I also don't see this being the first trick an amateur would buy. But in the sleight case it is, there are plenty of great books out there that teach you the basics which is needed, but not difficult at all. Not to sound cliche, but I really do highly recommend any Magician who doesn't do too much coin magic, to pick up Exile. Or if you happen to be a coin magician and have not yet purchased this, buy a copy now! Because just like the description says, it was just restocked in limited quantities and sounds like it will go out of print once they sell the remaining Exile DVD's. Buy this, because spectators just FREAK at each step of the effect, and the final revelation makes this effect even more amazing which cannot be said about too many effects that I personally own.

When I first received the trick I was a little apprehensive as it seemed like quite a bit of hard work. However, I am pleased to say, it was well worth it. The DVD - though brief - was informative and clear, providing detailed instructions on how to make and perform the trick. Most of the materials needed are provided and the ones that aren't WILL be in your house! I am very pleased with the trick, and the reasons why it only got 4*'s are the following; as aforementioned the amount of set-up needed is quite a lot, however the end effect is IMMENSE! Secondly, the length of the DVD. If I was to provide any feedback for this, it would be to include sleights on how to make sure you are clean at the end. I had no problem using my existing abilities, but beginners may have a problem. Apart from the things mentioned above, the trick is awesome. Reactions are brilliant and it is such a reputation maker. If you are reading this and contemplating buying eXile, DO IT. I cannot recommend it enough. Overall, a fantastic trick!

What I say- I unlike some people on this forum really like this effect. It uses something that NO ONE can think of, and best of all its real clean. I have a couple things I don't like, but more things I do like. Lets get it started! I wasn't a big fan of the dvd that came with the effect. Honestly I think it was a bit of a waste. The effect could of been taught in a booklet or something. Don't get me wrong, Dan teaches it extremly well, I just think that the effect is simple enough to be explained in text. My second problem with the dvd is they don't really teach enough. They teach you how to do the trick, but Dan doesn;t really go into how to make yourself clean at the end. I had no problem figuring out how, but a beginner whos knowlege in sleights isn't that broad wouldn't be able to make this effect the best it could be. Last problem with the dvd is the performance section was very lacking. One performance, not a good one, and it was for a friend, which in my opinion isn't a great spectator for a dvd. They should of taped a couple street performances. I can't think of a reason that they wouldn't. Thats enough with the dislikes, on to the likes. The trick looks REALLY REALLY good. It looks cleaner in person than it does on video, if that makes any sense. Its quite easy to do, and ALMOST everything you need is included. I'm pretty sure everyone has the thing not included in their junk drawer, and if they don't then it will cost like 2 bucks. Theirs one more thing that is needed but I'm pretty positive you also have that. If not, again, a trip to Rite Aid and your good to go. You have 100% angle safety, and the misdirection for the first move is GREAT. Your doing half the trick literally right in front of them without them thinking a thing. Everything is examinable granted you know a little sleight of hand. Nothing major, in fact just a simple move will let you hand everything out, although it is not taught in the dvd. Anyone with basic magic knowlege will know what to do, but as I said before, the beginner might have trouble. The pocket managment of this effect is better than most are saying. You CAN carry it around all day no problem, granted of course that you have a pocket. Nothing big to put in your pocket though. One thing needs to be handled a little gentley, but as long as don't like fall down on your side and you put all your weight on your pocket, you will be fine. Some people are saying that their pens don't write well. I haven't had any problems with my pen. It didn't write at first, but one good shake and the ink started flowing. I think this is a very good effect. As I said above...wil I use it every day? No. Will I use it at all? HELL YEAH! Out of 10, I'd give it an 8.

I'll start off by saying that the method for this effect is really cool! It's not limited to just the version performed by David Blaine(which is the coolest version in my opinion), you could write the x on your hand, vanish it, and make it appear on the spectator, which is covered by Dan White on the dvd. You could also penetrate objects; I've heard several people complain that spectators don't want to end up having ink on their hand, which I don't find a problem, but if you are worried about it, why not do eXile normally but have the X's appear on the coin itself? Just an idea. The teaching is very thorough, Dan White goes over construction, handling, and performance in a very concise, straight to the point way which I appreciate. The quality of the dvd is surpassed only by blu-ray, so you know it looks great. You get multiple copies of everything you need to construct and perform this effect. Set-up is just a one time thing and may take 5-10 mins at the most. I've read in other reviews that some people were disappointed in Dan not adding a handling that leaves you clean, so for any beginners out there, pick up a copy of Bobo's coin magic(book) or Noblezadas coin magic(dvd) from penuinmagic.com and you'll have every sleight you need to end this effect clean. I don't think it's necessary. I've performed this twice without any problems or interrogations which is the case most of the time with most effects, a little too much "caught ya" paranoia if you ask me. Great effect, if you're on the bubble about buying this, go ahead and take the chance, it's the coolest effect I've bought this year. Plus, it's very simple and clean.

Mine arrived today. The explanation was perfect and to the point. Dan does a great job explaining everything. He also goes into additional ideas using the principle - which are great ideas to say the least. T11 has done it again! Thank you T11 team for another outstanding product.
