1000 Top Personal Tips For A Magician

What is the first tip that comes to mind which you would like to share with other magicians? Our aim is to get 1000 tips in this thread.

This will hopefully start up peoples thought of mind, and also get magicians thinking if these tips will suit them. The tips, can be performance styles, presentation styles, helpful ideas, and so on.

Here is mine, for the next person to follow on...

1) Always do the three P's. Practice, practice, and practice.
2) Always smile, unless you are in a role of a certain character.

10) Only show your tricks when your able to perform them correctly, but also don't keep practising it too much when you already can do it as with the performance you get the experience.

I disagree with tip 12.

The art of magic lies in the tricks and effects, not in the patter. Patter is part of presentation, and presentation is just the way to present the art.

14) The effect is more important than the patter. But you better make sure your patter is good.

15) watch your spectators and base your performance and most importantly, patter, according to their personalities.

16) use friends and / or acquaintance to practice on, use them to help get rid of some of your nerves before you go out and perform.

18. Always address your audience by name, build rapport, if can, some body contacts will be better

18. Know when to stop. If you find a good audience and u keep on doin trick after trick. After a while you've shown nothin but that you're just a magic freak. Like what Wayne Hounchin said "You want to entertain your audience not scare them"

21.) Try not to let your nerves control you. Just forget your nervousness for the split second it takes to introduce yourself.

22.) Once you're performing, just roll with the audience and try to interact. If you're comfortable enough, you can change parts of your routine to fit the audience/situation.
