A question about Thread by Wayne Houchin

Hi. I got Thread awhile ago, and I didn't try it yet, because of multiple reasons, but I asked a doctor about the safety of this effect, and he told me that if I get bacteria in that certain "body part", I might lose that certain "body part". I don't know what to do, it's a beautiful effect, and I really want to try it, but I don't know if I should. Thanks in advance

Sometimes things that look like a bad idea really are! I suppose you could soak it in rubbing alcohol and let it dry out and wear latex gloves when you handle it, or maybe look into some sort of UV sterilizer, but I'm thinking listen to your doctor and practice sleights. Especially if you are young and plan on using said body part for many many years to come. There are always other tricks, there are not always other body parts. I wish fanning powder wasn't hazardous, but things are how they are and it is not always convenient. Back in the day when I worked in a magic shop a magician came in and was telling the crew about a big escape he had coming up. It was the last thing he ever attempted. Magic may be an illusion, but the risks are not.

Stay well.

Well, thanks a lot. Looks like I won't be doing this effect.

Hey!

I understand your thoughts, when I watched the vid I was a little discouraged. BUT if you use the Vis*** to soak the thread as he recommends, its not going to affect your eye. I have to admit, as Wayne predicted, that the first 3-5 times I did it, it felt uncomfortable and was relatively difficult for me. But after doing it in the mirror about 20 times, I felt comfortable leaving it there for an hour.

This is what magic's about, don't throw away an effect because of the practise, and if it was dangerous, Wayne wouldn't publish it! Just soak it a lot in what he suggests! Good luck!

That's actually another problem for me. You see, there's no Vis*** here in Egypt, I got another product as lub****** as Vis***, but I don't want to risk it, because I'm still 16 years old.

As it turns out, it's actually safe to put things into your eye. If it weren't, none of us would be wearing contacts.

Yes, there's a massive creep factor here. That's part of the point. And no, I have no plans to do this effect (although I just might change my mind at some point.)

But if you take care, safety is really a non-issue. Putting stuff into your eye is fine provided you are smart about it.

Yeah, but you put the contacts in soaking solutions, and it still might hurt you. I'll try to do it, and I won't leave it for along time. That should be better, I guess.
