Does anyone know how to ''age'' coins? if you've seen coin gaff websites you should know what I am talking about.(do you have to have ''soft'' coins?)

I believe it's just the natural process of coins rubbing against one another over a long period of time. They become less defined and "softer." Really the only method I know to "age" coins by as to own them for a long period of time...

Hope that helps.

For silver coins... Sandpaper to make them soft, and bleach to darken them.

For clad coins... wait 30 years or so.

Word of advice: bleaching silver will not age it the same way as it would naturally. Bleaching silver just darkens it and then you can polish areas around it. It definitely doesn't look anything like how "soft" coins look. In my opinion, just ask for older, circulated coins if you plan to buy some. I tried the artificial aging and it never worked out. I just bought pre-1921 Morgan dollars instead.
