Aw Snap by JP Hilario

A spectator freely selects a card and signs it. The card is then lost in the deck and a normal rubber band is introduced and inspected (the band could also be borrowed). You wrap the band around the deck twice so that the deck is completely restrained. You then begin to pull part of the deck up when all the sudden, SNAP. Half the cards have escaped the rubber band revealing that the signed selection is the point that the cards escaped.

Another DL hits the grounds at Papercrane... "Aw Snap". I'll start off saying it's a satisfactory effect that's fair in handling, and it should be noted all you'll need is a regular deck of cards, some normal rubber bands and a Sharpie marker. You'll have this down in no time, and it shouldn't take you more than 2 minutes to learn the ins-and-outs of Aw Snap.

Dan does teach the effect thoroughly in a 12 minute DL but he also mentions a discrepancy that the spectators may notice, but in all honesty, I believe it would be overlooked - also included is a 'Surrounded version' of Aw Snap if you're performing for more than 3-4 spectators.

I do like the idea behind Aw Snap, but I believe it's just "not there yet" - what I mean by that is, I believe Aw Snap benefits when performed in a routine but not as a standalone effect. Also, I'm not too partial on the 'penetration' aspect of the effect but I have worked on different handlings and outcomes and am starting to see the potential of Aw Snap.

For now, I'll keep playing around with Aw Snap and see different variations I can think of. But as of right now, I'll put it on my list of "Maybe Effects".
