Backback by Andrei Jikh

The Official Spam-

Backpack is a signature move in the cardistry arsenal of Andrei Jikh. It is revolutionary in it's simplicity : a cut done entirely on the back of one's hand. Learn the exact, proper cut technique with nearly 7 minutes of detailed instruction.

Also watch as Andrei demonstrates some advanced applications (he gets Jikhy with it). The possibilities are endless.

The Quality-

We all know that theory11's 1on1 videos are absolute awesome quality, so it goes without saying that this was just as good.

The Price-

I hear a lot of people complaining about prices for theory11's 1on1s- $5 for a new effect or sleight. I really don't mind the price, because if I will use this move, or have lots of fun practicing it (like Backpack), then I don't mind shelling out the $5. And yes, I pay for 90% of all my magic purchases with my own money, so my opinion on price does count.

The Teaching/Teacher-

The teaching on this, like everything from theory11, was top notch. The only thing I noticed was that Andrei seemed a little bit nervous in front of a camera... but maybe that was just me. I understood everything he was saying, didn't have to rewind at all. Teaching was excellent.

Difficulty-

For me, because I have messed up hands, including crooked pinkies, this has been pretty difficult. Then again, I'm no flourisher or an expert in cardistry... not even close by any means. To be honest, I haven't practiced this as much as I have like, because I've been gone the past week, so I can barely even do the cut slowly. It will be a while before I can get this up to speed.

As Andrei said, most people will have a lot of trouble with it, because it's probably not something you're even close to being used to doing (a cut on the back of your hand).

My Thoughts-

I really like this move, but it's been pretty difficult so far. I'm sure it will be worth the price once I get it down, and so far I've had fun practicing it. It will definitely be awesome once I can do it fairly quickly. I'll keep practicing, but overall, it gets:

7.5/10

No Seal of Awesomeness or whatever its called? C'mon, it's Andrei.

Nah, not this time. It's pretty awesome, but I don't think it deserves it yet. I don't know, maybe after I play around with it I'll give it The Seal. But, yes, Andrei most definitely gets:

I think the reason you gave it a 7.5 was because you were a beginner flourisher, if you'd been doing this for longer you would've given it a higher rating.

I don't own it, but as long as they didn't lie or something and the cut was actually taught somewhere within the film, I'd give it an 11, very unique.

That very well may be... who knows- maybe in a couple weeks, months... even years, I'll decide it deserves a higher rating than that. I could see it happening.

If this is a 7.5 and Static is a 10/10, maybe you should check your priorities in card manipulation lol?

I respect you as a reviewer and a magician after that hellishly long RRTCM review back on Penguin...but there is a ton of bad reviews here, so wait for about 6-7 months of flourishing experience to start seriously looking at reviewing moves.

I don't want to bash you, because I like how proffesional you are about things...but Andrei deserves more. Backpack Cut is a whole new concept. Static is recycled material...as most cuts are, that's the way it is.

This and the Static reviews are 1/10s. All your other MAGIC reviews are 10/10s.

Don't ruin your reputation.

No offence meant. CP.

I'm sorry, but I don't think I'm going to ruin my reputation because I give my opinion on things... all inside freakin awesome reviews. :D I appreciate the compliments, but think about it- reviews are OPINIONS, and that's what I gave it. It doesn't matter if I'm into flourishing a whole bunch or not, it's still my opinion, and I for one think it's worth something. Sorry, but you're wrong on this one.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that you enjoyed meeting Joel so much?

I think so...

Yeah probably. I must admit, my review for Static wasn't completely unbiased, because I have met Joel, and that's just how I roll. But I also really like Static. Even if I hadn't met Joel, I probably still would have given it at least a 8-9 out of 10. In fact, I don't think it even deserves a 10/10... I'll have to go change that- didn't realize I had it as that. But it still gets a 9/10.
