Hey, i'm having trouble deciding on which of these two 1-on-1 downloads to buy.

- Bluff Pass (Wayne Houchin)
- Fan Control (Joel Paschall)

To those who have bought and watched both of these videos.....which one is more worth it? They both sound exactly identical to me just from watching the previews. Is there much difference between these two tricks? Does one of they have more effectiveness than the other? or are they almost identical in style and effectiveness?

They are not tricks but controls, in essence their are the same style as they are controls but in method they are different. Also as of effectiveness they seem to both accomplish card control very well (I don't own/know Fan Control).

hey i own both and i gotta be honest i love them both, use them both all the time in day to day situations. as far as which one to pick, i would go back and watch the presentations again. which one fools you more, and which one can you see yourself using more. one of the key differences however is the bluff pass allows you to control the card to the top while the fan control gives you the option to put the card anywhere. hope this helped

I dont have the bluff pass one on one, but it is taught on wayne's indecent dvd. So if you like his indecent get that and yopu can get the bluff pass. Probably not as good teaching on it however. As for the fan control, I think that it is the most effective control out there because you can have the spec shuffle the cards in any manor, however, it is a little tricky to make it look really natural, also, the bluff pass takes much more misdirection. If you can misdirect like for stuff in the dangerous dvd, then get the bluff pass, but if you cant, fan control all the way to go. Hope this helps.

I like the Fan Control more than the Bluff Pass, but they're both pretty darn good. The teachers for both are top notch, as well. Guess I just made you more confused, right? :D

I find that the bluff pass doesn't take much misdirection at all. As long as you present it correctly, and W:H explains how to, the misdirection pretty much takes care of itself.

The advantage of the Fan Control is that the spectators can shuffle the deck, the Bluff pass does not allow you to do this.

I use the Bluff pass more as I don't often bother letting the spectators shuffle the deck, they've already put the card into the middle themselves, I think that's enough. If they really want to shuffle then you can just palm the card off.

The Fan control could be useful for hecklers who don't want to put the card back in the middle and try and shove it in another part of the deck, you could just fan the cards and let them stick it in anywhere. Although if I encounter these types of people I generally just end the performance as quickly as possible.

They actually accomplish different things.

Bluff Pass sets you up for a Double Lift - Good for an ACR.
Fan Control controls the card to the top.

Well, after much thought, i bought the bluff pass (only because i'm more familiar with wayne's tricks), but now i kind of regret buying it. Theres not alot of freedom to the control, where as the fan control looks like it has unleveled amount of freedom, but i might be wrong. Still, the bluff pass is really decisive, and is a valuable control to have as a magician. :D

I believe this is because you're looking at it from a magicians point of view.

The spectator holds their card, they tell you to stop anywhere they like and put the card back themselves. This appears very fair to them as they could apparantely have the card replaced anywhere they want.

After they are convinced the card is lost they won't even remember the control, they will remember the effect but not the selection process. They will simply remember a card being selected and lost in the deck.

If you don't like the position the card ends up in then you can easily place it in a better position during a riffle shuffle. There's also a couple of tricks in which it leaves you in a perfect position, e.g. Ambitious Card and the Biddle Trick.

I never said i was disappointed by the trick itself. I said i was disappointed because it had only a limited amount of freedom to the control. Can only move the selected card to the top. But still it's a very useful tool for a magician to have.
Fan control allows you to move card anywhere. Alot more freedom.

And i dont want to buy another 1-on-1 until i've mastered everything else i've learned. Dont want to keep wasting money everyweek.:p
If i really think i need fan control, i'll buy it.

Fan Control-

The spectator takes out the card while holding the deck, eliminating the possibility of a force, you fan out the cards, they put it back anywhere they want, then get to shuffle. Fan Control definitely looks more fair.
