If he illegally downloaded, why would he be asking for a download? I believe it, but you should buy it again to teach yourself to be more careful with your belongings.
Try contacting were you bought it and see if they also provide a download of the DVD. If you can give them your name and address to prove you bought it they could possibly give you a download for no charge. Just be sure to use proper grammar and full sentences when you contact them.

It also wouldn't hurt to include a picture of the actual disc.
Us giving you the download would also be considered illegal despite the fact you bought it. Making personal backups for yourself is legal. However, even though we would be sending you the exact same content, it still isn't technically YOUR content. That makes it illegal. Contact wherever you bought it from or Dan and Dave. They may be willing to help you out.
