The main problem with toonies/loonies is their complete lack of milling. This along with their smaller size [not to mention those awkward eleven [yes, count 'em!] sides on the loonie] makes them a poor choice for most coin work IMHO. Also, personally, I much prefer to work with real silver coins.

Although I do have a toonie shell which is useful for those impromptu situations, I tend to work with either US halves and dollars, or lately old UK Victorian half crowns as a preference.

One thing to consider might be Canadian silver dollars. These at least might be more familiar with your audience. There are some nice coins like the voyageur dollar.

It all comes down to personal preferences and working situation. Good luck with it!

You could get Canaidan Halves from a coin dealer. Also go to the post office and look in the display case with the stamps. They have Canadian dollars in the display case, and they are edged. I think mine were $45.00 a piece.

Hope this helps.

Actually, at 36mm diameter, they're smaller than a US Morgan silver dollar [38mm].

Also, check ebay for prices... you can "buy now" for about $10....
