Clipping cards with pinky. I have gaps, its my hands.

Still working on this but I think I am going to struggle with things that use pinky clips as when my pinky and ring finger square up there are several gaps because of the way my fingers are shaped!

Do I just need to practice this a lot more or is there an alternative to this or something I can do?

best I can explain it is that in natural resting and working positions there are gaps between my pinky and ring finger because of how my fingers are. The tips of my fingers on my index fingers point inwards towards to other fingers generally, it is a genetic trait as my grandad has this too. And my Pinky fingers do the same point inwards towards my other fingers.

Trying to learn some side steal variations, better glide control, glide sort of steal and such but my pinky gaps are doing my head in! xD

I have the same issue! The windows of my fingers are as wide as can be. I seldom get caught because I use different angles. Also, misdirection will obviously help. I may have to shift my pinky at times so that the "meat" of it meets the "meat" of my ring finger. It won't look straight because of my crooked fingers, but I seldom clip cards long enough for people to notice.

You may have to "clamp down" with the pinky and ring fingers at first while learning and it'll feel cramped, but I got used to it rather quickly.

For whatever reason, I can't see the first picture at all. However, I think I understand your problem. It is a pinky clip right, not a palm?

Try these tips, let me know if you need a better explanation.
  • Your hand looks relatively flat. It looks unnatural. Try holding your fingers together loosely without the card and finding the natural position of it. You'll see that all the fingers curl, but a little window appears between the pinky and the ring finger. That is where the card should go
  • Now curl the 3rd/ring finger in slightly, and curl the4th/ pinky too.
  • Bring the 4th/pinky slightly upwards so that the ring finger just over laps it
  • Now just relax your hand. You can even begin opening up the 1st and 2nd fingers, and the thumb too.
Let me know if you need more help (or if I was completely wrong lol)
