Let me give you a quick overview of the effect, the spectator feels your pulse slow down and come to an imediate stop. That is the basic idea and I know most of you are probably thinking to yourself, "there something under his pit?". I would like to be straight and upfront and say that this trick does not involve any object shoved up your pit and can be performed in any situation and if you really want to take it to the edge, you can perform this butt naked if you really want to.
The performance part of this dvd is rather interesting, they took cameras into a paid performance that Wayne had and showed the kind of reactions you can get when you build up to control. After the trick, he had people talking for a good hour to hour and half about what just happened. As well, they show an old peice of him performing Control on the "street" (if any of you own stigmata by wayne, it is an easter egg on that dvd).
The method of this effect is absolutely ingenious and in no way is it harmful towards your health or body. The effect is created by Wayne Houchin and is taught by Wayne and Daniel Garcia. Along side learnign control, you also learn two bonus effects, one is to allow your spectator to HEAR your heart stop and this is a perfecttrick if they ask you to do it again or show there friends. The second is a watch stop, so now instead of demonstrating that you have complete control over your body, you also have control over time.
After he teaches you the method of control, there is a section where he teaches it to a person who is new at magic, his name is Randall and for any of you who own stigmata, hes the one that says, "He predicted the number that I thought of in my forehead...". They teach Randall control and then they put him on the streets and you get to see him perform it. I felt it really cleared up a few things that I had some questions about. Not only was it informative, it was also quite entertaining to say the least.
The DVD was about two hours long and was shot in HD (for those of you who actualy care). There is a bonus section with some outtakes and one really interesting interview with Dexter. Wayne and Dexter have about a 10 minute conversation/ interview about the pulse stop and different ideas with it, some of the ideas that dexter had actualy sparked a few of my own for those who are curious.
This effect is very simple and leaves alot of room for different presentation ideas whether it is stopping on a selected card or a spectator thinks of a number and then your pulse beats that many times (ex. a person think of a number and say it is 3, your pulse then stops for say 5 seconds and then beats three times and stops again, but that is not necessarily what has to happen).
RATING
Overall (DVD, teaching, quality etc.): 9/10
Control- the trick itself: 10/10- this method is so simple yet so ingenious. I have showed this to a fe wpeople at the shop and they ahve had to scratch there head and think about it.
Daniel Garcias STOP: N/A/10- I really don't know what to rate this one, I have showed it to Scott one time when I was in the shop and he thought it was ridiculous. But that is from a magicians point of view, I would like to see the reaction of a spectator.
Additional notes:
-I have had control since they released it and most of you are probably wondering why I just posted a review. I wanted to use this effect before I start rating somthing before I have tried it.
-When I talk about "the shop", I am speaking in terms of my magic shop, just incase anyone was confused.
