Well one, if u had an epiphany and all the sudden you had an effect, i wouldn't sell it so soon. BUT..
To answer your question, you would have to publish it to copyright it, which could be done by writing a pdf or actual book to sell. You could also produce a DVD and sell it that way.
I don't recommend doing that yet. but there's your answer.. (i think. haha)

I guess most materials created by magicians have been used, tested and researched for years before they ever published it. So if you "created an effect out of random", you might want to keep it for yourself a while, and really test it under different conditions.

Okay, I guess I didn't answer your question. (^_^")
But again, I guess it's important to do a lot researches before really claiming that you are "absolutely sure that no one has created the effect or, method before". That includes books (old ones); not only the recent materials (Dvds). ;)

Anyway, back to your question.
Maybe you can submit it to Theory11? or any other company that you trust.

You shouldn't put out a DVD or book yet. Wait a few years. Work on it further, see if you can take it farther. Chances are if this came out randomly in your mind, you can take it a lot further. Either that or contact a site such as Ellusionist, Theory 11, Penguin Magic, or some other magic site. (Contact all of them and find out which one will give you the best business deal.) I recommend you work on it for a while, maybe even a few years. It may seem unnecessary, but it will come in handy. If you aren't over 21, no one will take you seriously. It's like a 12 year old teaching someone who is 32 something. While it may be done depending how long you've been in the art, you wont be taken seriously and I'm sure you can work on it.
