Hello...

this is something i have been thinking for a while...

as the name of the topic reads, day or night magic is something a lot of us don't even think about, but for me its something that makes the difference...

lets take for example and ambitious card routine (AC), the card keeps rising to the top of the deck, great effect! an a universal one.. but from my point of view it losses strength when performed at night time.
From my experience people tend to deviate (for some magic effects) the reasons/strength of the magic when they consider that shadows or light are interfering.

Maybe some people are going to tell me "then you are doing something wrong, the patter, the presentation, the moves" I can assure you that I am no lazy magician.

When i perform AC at daylight people just cant believe it and i get good reactions..... why the difference? is it for the illumination of the daylight? maybe, in the night we don't get a lot of light and even if we do get it shadows are far more obscure.

Once i performed the ID for some friends at night... we had some light, the effect was great and they ended up scared! @_@, but whenever i perform it in day light people seem to deviate the effect into the quick hands plot....

anyway I know different people means different reactions and because we cannot perform the same effect for the same group of people twice withot the effect being discovered/losing some edge.

Please discuss this, give me some examples of effects you think will work and why?...

Thanks!

so true, it really depends.... like if youre antarctican! im not but theirs barely any light there hhaa unless you perform for penguins and seals!

I'd actually say that reactions tend to be better at night. Considering a few factors, it would be quite easy to make a case that people are more comfortable and relaxed at night. The day's over. No work, just go home and relax with the family. Go out to the movies, dinner, etc. Generally, when people are in a good mood, they're more open to try new things and express their emotions more.

Of course, that case could be made for anytime during the weekend. I actually don't think it matters much, but the venue is more important than the time of day. Bars, restaurants, movies, as opposed to work, school, etc. The time of day is completely irrelevant IMO. As long as you do a successful job at entertaining them, then all will work out in the end.

Best.

I like night becuase...

I think that the reactions are better

It's more difficult to make a mistake and them see it

I get relaxed because I know there is less mistakes to be seen making me not do as many mistakes

and I can't think of anymore reasons

oh my.... i wont respond to Ampersan5340 because probably i will get banned for it.

Anyway at night time its easier to use misdirection, when i was a beginner i used to make some mistakes with my DL but nobody noticed it because they were misdirected or because of the illumination in that room.

I think that it does matters even if you are inside a building/restaurant moods, behaviour are noth the same during day or night... so it passes way beyind the light issue.
