Hello,
I have no money to buy a new card-clip and I tried to search on the ebay for cheap, used card clips but I didn't find card-clip under 10 dollar.
I would buy from the internet but I live in Hungary and the shipping costs are very high.

I always carry a deck of cards in my pocket or in my bag.But without protection the decks can easily split.
How can I protect them?

I have a porper from DnD and although it protects the body of the box it doesn't protect the top and bottom. They're not really worth it unless you're using expensive custom cards.

Expanding on what Luis said you could always make one yourself if you don't have a blacksmith near you, even strong card with rubber bands around it will protect the case. I'd quite like to go to a glass sculptor and get a nice one made to put on my desk as.

This does not really help the OP but it is food for thought.

I have a porper from DnD and although it protects the body of the box it doesn't protect the top and bottom. They're not really worth it unless you're using expensive custom cards.

First of all, formula, what are you doing with the deck in a Porper that you need the top and bottom protected? My deck is only in my Porper when it is in my pocket and the top and bottom of the deck do not need protecting while in my pocket.

Now for my rant, IMO a Porper card clip is worth every penny you spend on it. I went from going through a deck (or two depending on the weather) a week, to going through about a deck every 2 weeks. I am not too rough on my cards but I do not take it easy on them. For a $25 piece of metal to double (quadruple in some cases) the life of my cards it was well worth it.

You say that a Porper isn't worth it unless you are using expensive decks, so think about it this way, a single deck of Standard Bikes from Wal-Mart it is $2.18. Without the Porper (if you go through 2 decks a week) you are spending $4.36 a week on cards. With the Porper you would only be using one deck of cards every 2 weeks and saving $6.54 in a 2 week period on cards. So mathematically you are looking at 2 months and you would have payed for the Porper instead of extra decks of cards. My porper is almost 3 years old and I hear they last much longer than that. So really buying a Porper is an investment.

By the numbers I have put down (using 2 decks a week), in 3 years, without a Porper I would go through 312 decks of playing cards. 312 decks x $2.18 = $680.16 over 3 years. Now, if I have a porper and am only using a deck every 2 weeks then I am only using 78 decks in a 3 year period. 78 decks x $2.18 = $170.04 over 3 years. In case you were wondering thats a $510.12 difference.

Like I said, a Porper card clip is worth every penny spent on it.

I don't believe the purpose of a card clip is to prolonge the life of cards shindrichs, it's to help prevent damage to them during transit. So before you got a card clip you was probably using 2 decks a week because they got damaged while you was on the move, not because a porper gives cards a second wind.

This is a pack of V5 that I've taken out about 7 times in my clip

All I'm saying is that you can protect the cards/tuck box just the same with a thick magazine cover and rubber bands. Doesn't look as nice but if you can't afford the best go cheap until you can.

Very fair point Sam. However, for those of us who go through one deck in like 6 months, and don't buy anymore, not that great of an investment.

The reason my cards got destroyed is because I a fairly rough on my cards (faro shuffles, springs, etc.) And I always carry my cards in my pocket. The Porper clip keeps the deck flat and in good shape. Granted, as you stated, the clip keeps them from being banged up during transportation but I believe the purpose of a Porper card clip is to have a portable playing card press to keep your cards in as close to new condition as possible.

I couldn't have said it better!

If for nothing else, buy a porper so you don't have to put two f'ing dictionaries on top of a deck every time you have a huge palming practice session.

Although that sounds like more cost effective alternative.

To protect my cards, I use the cases given to you when you buy videocassettes, they're semi-hard plastic and your cards will be protected 360 degrees. I'm not sure if they will fit your need, but I found them to help me when I toss a deck or two into my bag and go to school. The deck feels secure in them, but remember to get the right size, you don't want the mini cassettes cause those are two small for a deck of cards. The only disadvantage to this method is the box doesn't fit in the plastic, so if you were wanting to display the box, then that's not going to work..

Hope I helped, here's a link to an example of some cassettes.. The usually come with a plastic case on each, so in this picture, you would get 4 cases for 16$ which is 4$ each, so its just like buying some cards.. Just make sure it's the right size and that there is plastic cases on the cassettes...

I know I am going to sound like a jerk saying this and I do not mean to, but why spend $16 on on 4 plastic cassette cases when you can spend $9 more and get a Porper card clip?

Just look at the advantages versus the disadvantages of both.

Cassette cases -

Advantages - Cost $16 vs. $25

Disadvantages - Case is very much breakable, Cannot carry tuck case with cards
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Porper card clip -

Advantages - Near indestructible, repairs crimps and bends in playing cards, Extends life of playing cards

Disadvantages - Some thicker playing card tuck cases (Bicycle Ecos, Sentinels) do not fit as well in the card clip and will get bent at the top and bottom of the tuck case. Problem can be fixed if you own a Porper from Ellusionist that is made for thicker decks.

Again, not trying to sound like a jerk but can you do what is done in the video below with a magazine cover wrapped around a deck of cards with a rubber band or binder clips or cassette case and the deck still come out of said item unharmed?

Exactly Sam. A Porper Clip does many wonderous things for your deck of cards. A plastic cassette case breaks and cracks very easily. Like in the video Sam inserted above, the case would just break and shatter and your cards would be ruined. Pay the extra cash for the Porper. Money well spent.

Where did you have yours made?

You can have you own hand made in those places where people works with steel (blacksmith?) I have mine and it`s a beautiful crimson red...and it only costs 10 bucks...
Can you give a name of the place you got this done? and was it online? Thanks, FS.
