Jay Sankey has produced a utility gimmick that I have fallen in love with! Sankey’s Camouflage is a brilliant card gimmick that allows you to perform a range of illusions inches away from your spectator’s nose without fear or worry about being caught out on how the magic is being done.

What Jay has come up with is a sheet of printed gimmick that allows you to do a range of unique tricks from penetrating a solid deck of cards with a marker, sharpie, or pen to vanishing an entire deck and leaving behind the selected card, or even producing or vanishing items using a deck box full of playing cards. The DVD is short and after watching it you’ll know how to set up your gimmick to perform the effects that you want. Jay includes two printed gimmick sheets which will be more than enough material to build many props, or repair props once they start to wear down with use. Setting up the gimmick requires the use of scissors, a straight edge, a little tape, and about three minutes of your time. Not complicated at all.

Performance wise this is a fun product to play around with. Your angle are pretty solid, and this could fit anywhere into your routines. You could make a powerful opener with it by showing a deck box cut in half, with cards on both halves of the box, only to remove a full, uncut, deck moments later, to closing with vanishing your deck after your routine is done. The reactions are pretty good, and the applications are limited by your creativity.

Overall Jay has really created something practical, fun, and versatile with his latest project. It doesn’t feel incomplete at all. It does feel open ended though, which I think is appropriate given how versatile and useful Camouflage is; As it should be. This is something that is going to grow with use, and Jay welcomes any feedback. If you do card magic, then you owe it to yourself to check out Jay Sankey’s Camouflage!

When I give my product scores below I am measuring them on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 Being absolute the worst score possible, and 10 being the absolute best, making a score of five average. The four points that I grade upon is Product Quality, Teaching Quality, Sound & Video Quality and Overall Quality.

Product Quality: 8

The price is right, and Jay is very generous with the gimmick material supplied.

Teaching Quality: 8

It’s Jay Sankey. I don’t care what the product is Jay has such a charismatic and lovable personality that he could make reading the phone book sound entertaining.

Video & Sound Quality: 8

Good video, and good sound.

Overall Quality: 8

I suspect this will wind up in a lot of peoples working repertoire, and with good reason.
