True Mysteries II is a solid follow up to the first True Mysteries book and companion DVD. This is a must have book on the subject of trance illusion and duel reality work.
I didn?t know what to expect from Fraser Parker. I?ve never heard of him before, and I somehow missed the bus on his last release in this series. Having never seen or read through True Mysteries this book was something I was completely unprepared for. I saw a post cross an internet magician forum asking for a review on it I just had to Google it to see what the thread poster was talking about. When I saw the trailer for the video my jaw hit the table. ?What is this witchcraft?!? I thought to myself. Surely there must be some gaff involved because what I?m seeing is a stupid amount of hypnotic control on a spectator without the use of inducting a trance. Either everyone filming this trailer is in on it, or this is the greatest thing to hit stage hypnotism since vaudeville. Stage Hypnotism was popular in the vaudevillian era right? Don?t quote me there I haven?t fact checked it. Oh screw it, if it wasn?t popular during vaudeville era then it would have been if they?d known about it. That?s my stance and I?m sticking to it. I?m moving on with my review now.
True Mysteries II by Gavin O'Rourke Soccorso and Fraser Parker is an amazing book on the power of suggestion. What they teach isn't quite hypnosis, and it's not quite instant stooging, it's somewhere in a grey zone between the two. Whatever it is classified as it?s massively powerful and a fun lesson in dual realities. -Duel Realities being where the spectator experiences something different than the audience but neither is aware of the others experience being different so it plays bigger than it is.
I?m not someone who is a fan of heavy reading so I was thrilled that the book is only about 50 pages long, give or take. The book is a quick read and jammed packed with valuable information. I would wager a guess to say that any of the three principles Fraser comments on would be very useful to the performer of magic and mentalism even used away from the applications he covers in True Mysteries II. Study it, and use the wording they give you in your scripts and you should enjoy quite a lot of success. This could be a full act onto itself without the need of props at all. This kind of waking induction less suggestion act would play well for night clubs, and stages.
Overall I have to say this is a must have book! I don?t care if you?re planning on adding hypnotic suggestions to your act or you just want to know to make your own magic more powerful with audience management this book is filled with powerful suggestions that work. Get it. Own it. And keep a close eye on Fraser Parker. He?s creative enough to take this industry by storm.
When I give my product scores below I am measuring them on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 Being absolute the worst score possible, and 10 being the absolute best, making a score of five average. The four points that I grade upon is Product Quality, Teaching Quality, Readability and Overall Quality.
Product Quality: 8
The product is made of solid gold, it?s just deceptively cleaver in that it LOOKS like an ordinary paperback book. The price is a little steep considering True Mysteries (the first publication) cost about as much and came with a DVD, but make no mistake, you?ll use the material in this book over and over.
Teaching Quality: 8
The difficulty with this material comes from wording things the way Fraser teaches. To that extent if you can follow a script then you can learn this material.
Readability: 9
True Mysteries II is a quick and easy read through.
Over All Quality: 9
Why don?t you own this book? GET IT NOW! I highly recommend it.
