Dylan's Review: Bee Playing Cards

Recently I decided that I was going to use more cards than just Tally-Ho's and Bicycles. So, today I went for a little ride to get a pack of Aviator Playing Cards. unfortunately, they had run out of them. I, however, refused to go home empty handed. I searched the shelfs just like Indiana Jones is going to do when looking for the Crystal Skull.

At last I found a box of cards that I had seen before, yet I didn't own them. They were a box of Bee Playing cards. I say that they were made by the U.S. Playing Card Company. This immediately enticed me. The U.S.P.C.C. always produces the best cards for magic and poker alike. I purchased them instantly. I restrained from opening in the car and waited untill I got home. When I got home I ripped off the cellophane and began to play with the cards.

when I buy a new deck of cards I always try to detroy them through pure use within the first few hours to see how much punishment they can withstand. I decided to write this review after playing with them for 3 hours. Here are the results:

THE BOX...

Honestly, I must say that at first glance the box is less than impressive. however, if you are a good magician, like me, then you may look closer at the box. At close-up you can see that there is actually quite a bit of detail on the box. the only thing that is easy to describe is the Bee on the box. Other than that here are pictures of the front of the box:

i'm sorry it's small. Put it in a word document and enlarge it: http://www.unclesgames.com/images/products/thumbs/073854000922_thumb.jpg

THE CARD FACES...

I have spent a good deal of time studying all the faces on the cards and I can not seem to find a great deal of change. Not even the Royal cards stay the same as Bicycle's. Well, both were made by U.S.P.C.C. so I guess they would be the same. I wish there was abit more change here. The Ace of Spades, however, changed a lot. I will address this later. Keep reading.

CARD BACKS...

The back of these cards are strange. The design is just really neat looking and almost has an optical illusion in it. The back of the cards are pretty much a bunch of small diamonds that are all conected. The cards give a very strange illusion when stared at for too long or when spun on the finger. They almost make you dizzy which I like, although you may not agree. The design does make Double lifts and shape shifter's a bit harder. But, honestly it doesn't get much harder and as long as you pinch the cards tightly together it's fine.

This picture shows a better picture of the box as well as the back design: http://www.nothingupmysleeve.co.uk/marketplace/images/bee.jpg

ACE OF SPADES...

The Ace of Spades is very cool and personaly I prefer it over Bicycle's Ace of Spades. The spade is larger as spades on Ace's usually are. In the middle of the Spade there is a bee hive with small Bee's around it. Outside of the Spade there are many flowers with larger Bees approaching them. under this is all the company info and stuff. here is a picyure:

STOCK...

Now that you know what they look like the question is, What do they feel like?

I won't lie these cards feel very skinny, flimsy, and bendy when you first touch them, but I will assure you that this doesn't really make a difference at all. The thiness is just the feel. The card is actually pretty thick and will last you a while. They handle great and are actually quite sturdy and strong.

FANNING...

These cards fan like a dream. They feel very slippery and are great for about any type of fan you can think up. They almost feel like they've been dipped in a vat of fanning powder already. After 3 hours of non-stop use mine still haven't changed at all. They still work and feel like they are right out of the box.

FLOURISHING...

Although these card sfeel like butter they stick together great for flourishing. People in to fourishing or who want to become a cardist, get some of these.

DURABILITY...

Like I've said, I've been playing with these for 3 hours and they still work great. Here's the cool part... since I've started using them I haven't washed my hands once and I have dropped them on the ground three times. They still feel as if they just came out of a box. I think they can take more of a beating than Bikes can.

Anyway, I hope they will continue to work this well for at least a few dayts of non-stop use because so far I am really impressed with the durability of the cards.

FINAL THOUGHTS...

Honestly, I love these cards and am quite happy I bought them.the will last for a while and they're stock is great. They slide easy also. I would recomend these to any cardist or magician out there. My final rating is:

9.5/10

Great cards. Great Review.

Because of the design they're awesome at false shuffles and cuts. Plus you can second deal like a pro with these. And they are some of the toughest and slickest cards you'll come accross.

But they do have their limitations. Your double lifts need to be dead on and if you're doing a trick with reversed cards, forget it. Face up in a face down (squared) pack they stick out like dogs balls.

Gonna pick me up another brick of these soon :D
