So look guys, what do you think about having a forum dedicated solely to having essays on magic? I have at least seven essays scattered around here, and I'd like it if there was a place to put them where they wouldn't get buried under all the other topics, and nobody every reading them again.

However, I do feel that if an essay forum was added, it would have to have strict rules. Things that are common sense, but most people I have seen on forums do not follow. Things like the essay has to be understandable, with proper punctuation, capitalization, spelling, grammar, etc.

So vote, and let's get an Essay Forum up and running!

1)I could post a poll here.

2)It would get more attention here.

3)Seriously? It's not going to clutter up the forum. The wasteful topics about who's your favorite magician, blah blah blah are the ones that are cluttering it up. They serve no purpose. I know you'll counter with the Improving T11 thread, but oh well. Maybe I should have posted it there... I'll do that next time.

Oh, and if you said no... why? What do you have against an essay forum? Or are you just trying to be rebels? :)

I think one of the first priorities for this forum should be an off-topic forum. Just to talk about everything and anything, and not have to worry about someone saying, "this should be in the ______ forum."

If could also prevent clutter to have an off-topic forum. It would avoid pointless threads being posted in the coin magic forum just because there is nowhere else to post it.

An essay forum definitely is an idea though.

Sure, an essay forum would be nice, I checked out the one at penguin it was pretty good, I read some of the essays. The point about them being buried is a good point.

The one on Penguin is where I got my idea. I'm a big poster over there, and I always post my essays there first, then over here. I guess an Essay Forum would only benefit the people like me that simply like to read things like essays on presentation, stories, magic in general, etc.

Consider this: I've posted numerous articles of my own. They never get very far.

Simply put, an essay forum would be redundant because the forums are going through some growing pains. More people want to know what's coming down the pipeline than read another essay. There's a period here of separating the wheat from the chaff.

Anyway, I personally have come to the conclusion that if a person does not want to read an article that could benefit them simply because it's long and potentially boring, then they don't deserve the information anyway. So I now write for the minority who are smart enough to listen to what I have to say.

Yes, but wouldn't it be nice if we had a place for those things... where the people who wanted to read them, like me, could? I think so...

Personally, I can see the benefits and disadvantages of having an Essay forum. I'll save everyone a very long rant, but I think that I would be in favor such a forum, or at least a directory of essays.

I for one, am not one of those people who cant be arsed to read an essay because it's too much writing. I love essay, quite a few have made me think about my magic, and where Im going with it and such.

You've got my vote.

Cheers, Tom
Ps. I cant stand essays with bad grammer though.

I would'nt sell yourself so short here. 923 people viewed your four part essays and that was at a time when everybody was buzzing from the control release.

True. I agree, but for myself and nearly one thousand others that read your 4 part, we would have a direct place to go to for essays and articles. I think those numbers would grow if there was a direct forum.

I believe that they serve everyone. Newbies are hungry for information and knowledge and these could be a good sourse. For those who have been here for a while its always good to review and get others takes and ideas.
Thats just my 2 cents anyway.

I wouldn't mind an essay forum. I think it would be a great addition for the Theory 11 forums.

It's kind of hard for me to find a good essay using the search feature because.... well, it sucks. I can't find anything and that's ironic because I can find anything using Google. Than again, people out here don't pay money for their threads to be at the top of the search-list :)

So, yah. I'm all for it. Good idea.

Well, I PM'd Mr. Bayme with a request... so maybe sometime we'll get an essay forum... unless he's mean and says no. :(
