Fanning powder is a chemical powder called Zinc Stearate , and works as in industrial lubricant.

Most useful substitutes that I have heard of is Corn Starch however it does not work as well as fanning powder.

Using baby powder will cause the cards to absorb water and lose its feel.

If you are a magician using fanning powder may cause cards to become more difficult to slide, thus hindering some effects which requires cards to slide well. eg packet tricks.

I tried fanning powder once and I did not like it at all because the cards would not slide and it is literaly impossible to do the erdnase change.

You little stalker!
Wether or not you use fanning powder is up to you. I won't write a whole essay cuz i've already done it many times but i'll say this:

Fanning powder will:

Makes your fans better
Make your spreads better
Make packets stick together more in cut and ariels.

They take a while to get use to them but to me, they are pure gold. I have no idea how i managed to flourish before i got these. But it may make it harder to do color changes RIGHT WHEN IT PUT ON. Let the powder settle for a couple days, meaning do some flourishes with that deck, and you should be able to do color changes just fine.

Thanks guys! I actualy tried baby powder yesterday and now my cards are super smooth! (almost like a babies butt! HAHA! but I didn't think of the fact that it will absorb water! best to keep them away from water then!
