Five Speed Out

Great Trick! But what do you suggest doing if the spectator randomly selects one of the 5 cards you need for the 2nd part of the effect? It may be a rare event, but it will happen roughly 16% of the time by chance if the deck is shuffled before starting the trick. Of course you would find out when you went fishing for the 5 spade cards and could only find 4 of them. This hasn't happened to me yet, but I know it's coming. I can't think of a graceful exit, except to start all over and have them try to pick another card.
Any other suggestions?

All I can think is to say,You didn't choose any of these(A,2,3,4,5) did you? If they say yes, use the 5,6,7,8,9,10 instead.

If they choose the 5, you're screwed.

Just figure out which one's "not there", and reveal their card. Then for your next effect, do Five Speed. Never had this happen, but that's what I would do in said situation.

Nice idea!
They cant pick a 5... Unless if theyre hecklers.

That's true. They can only really pick one of the other 4, but I'd have a tough time pattering my way rapidly thru the 5-to-9 of spades. But anything is possible with practice.
However, I think the other suggestion is better, just revealing the selected card and using 5-speed later - or not at all. I do a couple of 'mentalist' tricks that, if the spectators don't behave, I'll transition into something completely different. Then I just use that trick another time on someone else.

It seems like common sense to put the cards somewhere the spectators won't be able to pick them. To be honest I think it's stupid to just hope that they won't pick one of the Ace - 4 of spades as obviously it's going to happen quite a few times if you regularly perform Five Speed.

Just quickly go through the deck and cull the Ace - 4 of Spades to the top then cut them to the bottom. If you dribble the cards and ask the spectator to say stop the Ace - 4 will have already passed before they stop you.

I agree. It's best to put those 4 cards out of harm's way, depending on how you have the spectator select their card. I have them select it from a spread, so I'd put the spades near the top of the deck and just don't spread that region.
Good suggestion. :D
