If you are looking for a good quality camcorder, you'll be looking at camcorders in the 800-4000 dollar range. Webcams are different, simply go to your local Best Buy and ask them what the best quality webcam they have is.

well my mom got me this camera and it has sound when you record videos like out side and its not plugged into the computer like it doesn't pick up sound why is this i mean it has a sound recorder till i plug it into the usb port and like put on web cam mode ill i see is picture no sound do i need a mic for a camera that has one built in but doesn't use it? or can i fix this

It depends what computer you are using (Mac, PC) and what you budget is. I currently use Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects which are, in my opinion, the best editing programs you can get for a PC.

Some will say Vegas is pretty good too. For Macs, Final Cut Pro is the way to go.

Yes Final Cut Pro is the best but is pricey. If you haven't done any editing and you are looking into just doing some card videos Final Cut Express is great, or so I've heard.

That's a very good camcorder at a very reasonable price. When you buy a camcorder, I would recommend purchasing an external microphone along with it.

Mitchell

I would second Mitchel's suggestion, but with the way us young people treat electronics, a hard disk camera is not your best bet. The memory can easily get corrupted from something hitting the camera, and if you mess up the disk inside, you are outta luck.

Yes you are gonna want an external mic.

And if you have Mac...iMovie or final cut pro

Pc- Pinnacle Studio, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere

That camera you posted is very impressive and I may go about purchasing it in a few months once spring is in the air again.

As for editing programs, there are plenty.

I have worked with Adobe premier often and really enjoy it, but it is expensive just like any other professional program. Sony Vegas is good too, but I prefer Premier, unless you like creating your own music as well, then Sony Vegas and Sony Acid are a good mix.

If you have no experience at all and are wishing to quickly finish your project (not recommended) you can always use Windows Movie Maker. Those are the ones I've had experience with, you can always google more results, but I recommend Adobe Premier.

I recently purchased a panasonic pv-gs150 (older model) on ebay for rather cheaper then the going price. Ebay can be a double edged sword for electronics tho'.

Two things to look for on any camera that is a camcorder. 1. 3-ccd (Or three chip. It's a color thing. Makes everything look better) 2. Audio input. This way you can hook a microphone up to it. From a wireless lavalier to even a crappy PC mic, so people can hear what yer saying. The one I have can also be used as a webcam should the need ever arise.

I'm getting a cheap 320$ one...MAYBE if I'm lucky. but it's for recording magic on teh streets/schoolground. I hear t has poor lowlight performance, bhut other than that, it's a great starter camera :)

If you are just starting out, play around with Windows movie maker. It's free and easy to use so you can get a feel of it. Don't go crazy with it though because if the file gets to big it will crash all the time. I have pinniacle Studio 10. It's pretty good and has pretty good reviews.

BTW here is a link with extensive reviews from people who use these types of programs all the time. They create music videos from Anime and Songs they like and they are pretty good. VERY GOOD actually so they know what they are talking about.

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/help/software/

you may need to create a username and password to view it though but it has like almost every single video editing program in existence.
