Hi-C//Connor Martin (Maydey.com)

Hi-C by Connor Martin
http://www.maydey.com/

Site Description:

Connor Martin makes his freshman release here with us at Maydey. A selection is made by two members of your audience. They are completely lost into the pack. The magician introduces a Joker and proceeds to explain that each spectator will find their card based on intuition alone by placing the Joker anywhere they please. When the first member finds the other's card, the second is instructed to find the first selection. The Joker transposes with the second selection which was in view the entire time on the table - but when revealed, it's actually the first.

Price:

$6.95 (I used a $1 coupon code that brought it down to $5.95)

Review:

I bought this effect about 2 weeks ago after deciding to take a chance with Maydey.com. I saw the preview and was impressed. As a year-in, intermediate card worker, I was able to figure out a couple moves but the rest had me surprised.

This is a quick, sort-of transposition effect with 2 selections and a joker. There's not much to say about it other than what you see in the preview. I like the effect a lot. It's not hard to do, quick to get down, and gets good reactions.

There is some angle sensitivity for part of it, and this around the performer's back-right, in which case, said spectator would not be able to see the effect and logically wouldn't really be there anyway. Not much audience management needed there..

There are a couple discrepancy moves as well, but any thoughtless amount of misdirection will cover these. As with all effects, all one needs to perform the sleights unnoticed is a cool head and the ability to talk while doing something. One move seems a bit scary when you first learn it, but it really isn't. When I learn and see effects, I watch them as if I were a spectator. This saves me from what many people do, complaining about how noticeable and obvious a move is when they do it. I simply remember that I didn't notice the move when I first watched it, so it all boils down to uniformity of action.

Other:

For the price, $6.95 seemed a bit excessive. I was thinking on whether or not to buy it, but I spotted a coupon code that deducted a dollar, so that sold me. Not an extreme price to to pay, but most 1-on-1's don't pass $5 unless it's something big.

The video quality, for those that care (if I can see it, it's good, although I always appreciate HD), is very good. It's HD, not T11 quality (though I don't know any site that does) but better than many. The sound is a little flat, but easy to understand and not uncomfortable to listen to. These factors have no bearing on whether I like an effect, and shouldn't really on anyone else, but I thought to add it in for tech-junkies.

Connor's teaching is good. He goes over the effect, then breaks into detail, and credits appropriately throughout. Should have no problem learning this.

In Conclusion....

This effect, in terms understood by many cultures, is good, bueno, sugoi, and ballin'. Easy to do, hits pretty big, not much else to say except recommended.

I thought I'd write a review on this because Maydey is a fairly new site in the game and I've never heard of Connor Martin, so they both deserve a bit of attention. I see Maydey as becoming fairly big on the map sometime in the future, with some more good releases like this.
