How to get cards ready for riffle stacking?

Hi!
I have recently started to learn riffle stacking and other card cheat sleight of hands. I just downloaded riffle stacking by Jason England, and i loved it, but there wasn't explained a way to get those four aces or any desired cards from a shuffled deck to the top. So how should I get the desired cards to the top while others are watching... I can't just pull them out, and peeking the top card while shuffling is way too slow... it takes so long to find even two aces. What methods do good card cheats use (like Richard Turner)? Thank you for all the help and ideas!

Try looking at The Expert at the Card Table S.W Erdnase. It has a couple of ideas on how to do this. The section is called "Ordinary Methods of Stocking, Locating, and Securing."

1. Look through the deck under the guise of seeing if all the cards are there and cull the aces to the top.

2. Pull the aces out and put them on the table. Insert them into different parts of the deck and control to the top using a multiple shift.

3. John Gustaferro's Either Or from One Degree is a great routine to get into a set-up.

Would any of these methods work in an actual card game, after the first hand once you have no excuse of spreading out the deck and taking the cards out?

No. I was speaking in terms of a magic trick or gambling "demonstration." To do a set up during a game is difficult. I know there is some good work out there by Marlo and Fulves on setting up, but I'm not familiar with the techniques.

The method of doing this during play depends heavily on the game you are playing in. If the game if loose you will get away with a lot more than a game with strict procedures which are enforced.

Depending on the game you may simply get away with looking through the discards. There's also the pickup stack, where you glimpse all the face up cards after the showdown and pick them up in the desired order for your stack. If you or your partner receive a strong hand, you can use that as the starting point for the stack on the next hand. There's also the option to use marked cards or a stripper deck. I recommend reading Poker Protection by Steve Forte where this topic is discussed in detail.
