In the Beginning...

I had been aware of "magic" for as long as everyone does (almost birth) but some people get to see it more than others.

It was not until i was 13 at my grandparents house that my uncle found a copy of "fearless" by David Blaine and i popped it in.
I was astounded by this man's great talent. I thought "here and there" was real magic and i didn't even care how it was done. Just kidding, actually i picked up a deck of cards and executed my first double lift. "Was it really that simple" i asked myself. After watching the trick a couple of more times I tried it on my mom. "Wow" she said in delight thinking to herself that with my very hard effort and enthusiastic effort that this is something that will change my life.

A week later I'm at my house sitting on the computer for hours (holding my black tiger deck) at a time looking at Ellusionist being completely amazed at what moves Brad Christian pulled off. (in fact one of the first things that i saw was his gambling trailer)

From then on I have been practicing and trying to perform just as much now as i did then over 3 years ago.

The reason i wrote this was not just to tell you my story. But i was writing this to show everyone the reason we even started magic. I can say this for everyone that the first magic trick we saw was the most spectacular thing we had ever experienced. That is why we joined in on this Art we call Magic. To many of us now it is just slight of hand, we are the tricksters. I sometimes for et why I do what I do now. Its because I saw something truly amazing and i wanted to let other people experience what i saw (the impossible)

So as i perform a double life, Sybil, or even the pass, I try to remind myself. This person is seeing this for the first time and its the most incredible thing they have ever seen, just as saw 3 years ago.

Don't worry about the moves so much, and focus on the impossible.

Absolutely.

That's why magic is so powerful. It's not everyday that the spectator sees someone bend the laws of the universe to his or her will. It's that astonishment. That's what I live for.

I go slow. Astonishment shouldn't be delivered with an explosion. It should be shown as a careful execution of the impossible.

Hahaha... right, we "bend the laws of the universe" by making a card rise repeatedly to the top, and we "focus and execute the impossible" by making 2 cards change places...

If you're actually serious about what you say about "impossible" and "bending laws of nature", actually do it, and not delude yourself into thinking that your card or coin tricks you learnt from some DVD out there is actually "creating the most impossible experience for your spectator".

But yeah, I started watching Copperfield on TV and was pretty amazed at what he did. Bought little magic sets for children, learnt some card stuff from library books, and off I went learning more card stuff.

For me, I am never serious about my magic being "impossible" and whatnot. I just do what I do and make sure everyone enjoys it and has a fun time. I find that way of doing magic a lot better for me.

I don't focus on the impossible. Strangely.

- harapan. magic!

heres my take:
My body burned with frustration.. how could she do that to me... it was never meant to be. You knew it from the start. Idiot! I yelled to myself.. yes indeed it was never meant to be. Come on.. forget her.. clear your head.. think boy think!.. what will make you focus on other things... what is so astounding that you will have no time to think about that girl and her trickery... trickery?..yes.. thats it... magic...

Grabbing some cards from my gambling drawer.. a pack of cards.. simple enough.. now.. lets see what I can do with this.....days pass, weeks, months, I've dillegently practiced and have for the most part moved her away from my thoughts. This is good.. I thought to myself.. I shall continue doing this..'magic'... (The rest is history..)
