Invisible Walkway Idea

If any of you have seen Indiana Jones hopefully you'll know what I'm talking about. Well, I watched that show maybe 10 years ago, but one part still is in my mind. The part is when he has a map showing a bridge across two mountians (sorry about the details but the basic idea is waht I'm getting at). people can't seen the actual bridge, but the map shows it. Then, he walks across that invisible bridge from one mountian to another.

I' not even sure if that was from indiana jones, but whatever. The point is that I had an idea to use this in a card effect.

The cards are spread on the spectators hand and past the finger tips into mid air. The cards are literally suspended about 1/2 a foot away from the spectators finger tips as if they are being supported by something, but ther's nothing except air. Then with a click the cards all fall.

If anyone has any ideas on how to achieve this (or something similiar) PLEASE PM me or post something here. I would really like to do this effect.

Thanks!

Spreading cards and having them suspend in mid air has been done several times. Steve Beam had some work on it, and a couple of dealers sold devices to aid in the process. Most of the time, this was done in a spread between the magician's hand, but with a little thought maybe they could be adapted to your idea. (Beam also explored lots of other weird balancing/suspended card ideas.)

The problem with doing it in the spectators hand is one of controlling their actions. When someone is fooled or entertained, they react. This reaction often translates into movement. This movement could impact the method, effect, or both.

Yeah, Loops or invisible thread may be a way to accomplish that. Just hook it in places where you want the ends of the bridge to be and let the card suspend or hang on the thread.

Hope this helps

Google Steve Beam, he has a website. Also, check with a magic dealer like Denny Haney (www.dennymagic.com) and ask about the suspended cards. Might not be on the site, but a nice email might let you know if they are still around to be bought.

I don't remember where I read it, but I read somewhere a method of doing it with a regular rubber band.

Very simple, yet very good.
