Is the Kaos Card Trough Window effect from The Ellusionist worth the 25 dollar cost plus shipping and handling? and if not can you guys please provide a good and cheaper substitute?
Kaos is AMAZING!!! I would have gladly paid more for it! If you know anything about Card Through Window effects you will know that pretty much all of them require complicated gimmicks and/or some kind of setup and with Kaos you don't need any of that. Just a deck of cards and a window. It's amazing! Besides the ability to show your hands completely empty before you "pull it through the window" is something that will leave your audience speechless. GET IT!!!
It's a good effect but I don't think what you get is worth $25 plus shipping. It should be sold as a $5 or $10 download in my opinion. Look for a used copy on ebay or something so you don't have to pay full price if you want to get it. I don't perform it because it can make a mess out of your cards, but that again is my opinion.
I don't have it but I think it's worth it. Let's analyze it. If you are going to do a Card Through Window, throwing the cards is good but it's better to pull the card from the other side of the glass.
So in conclusion:
This worth it because this is a more REALISTIC Card Through Window

I think you make a good point in believability, however, I think street testing will be the ultimate decider of this. I have done the standard David Blaine style card through window with a signed card and it blew people away. You just can't beat those reactions, but the con is you of course need a confederate whereas with Kaos it's all impromptu. Also, it depends on your performance style and whether you like working with other people to accomplish an effect. It just comes down to personal preference. Both are good effects, but I just think Kaos is too much money for what you get which is a dvd and that's it; again it's impromptu so you just need a regular deck of cards. I personally enjoy figuring effects out which is what I usually do instead of buying effects. If I know they require gimmicks that I can't figure out such as with Dresscode, which is super awesome, I will buy. I'm a poor magician so I got to be careful what to buy!
In my opinion, Kaos is the perfect effect, and I would have paid twice the amount I did. It's hard to find a trick that gets better reactions, especially for how easy the trick is to perform.

I think reactions are much more determined by the performance. I have seen many sure fire effects ruined by a horible performance. I personally would be enraged if I had purchased this at twice the price. You could have bought a few books like "The Paper Engine," and "Card Fictions" and had many more hard hitting effects. Or even, a nice dvd set from an artist such as Jay Sankey who packs a lot of hard hitting effects on such as "Anytime Anywhere" or "Sankey's Secret Files." Many effects on these dvds are hard hitting and could be sold for the same price Kaos is sold for. To pay that much for a dvd with one effect on it using what you already own, is not worth it to me for this effect. Another idea, is to get a good book on performance which will help you out much more in the long run than one card effect.
