Magic as a Career

What are some of your opinions on how viable magic is as a job/career? Some people say things like "Oh you couldn't do that" without giving a good reason as to why, usually it is something like "Well... it isn't normal." However people also say that about musicians and actors some of which do make a living off of their skills.

Magic can be a great career but you have to think of it like a business. You have to work hard at it honing your skills of course but cultivating clients and promotional material.

For me, when I mention that I am a magician I do so with a straight face very seriously. I can mention that I am the president of our local magic club and that I have been published online as well as in a Magic magazine. It might sound weird at first but if you provide a context for your position it helps.

You can make money, the most lucrative way would be to perform as much as possible.
