I dream a bout flourishing.

I catch myself Day dreaming all time a bout it.

I really want to get into it.

I have XCM col.1 i guess.

and Trilogy.

Where is the best place to learn sybil?

It seems a little hard to follow on the trilogy.

I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH THIS, but I REALLY REALLY would LOVE to be able to flourish like some of you guys.

Oh, I also got my hands on a copy of lethal (was not cheap)

But thats the stuff I have.

And I Really will work hard.

what are the first few Flourishes I should Know?

I know the Charlier Cut and Cylinder from Lethal. I know thats not impressive at all. =[

Please help? lol

Thanks for your time guys (and girls)

Athough it is very unprofessional and some people might bash me for this. Get on to youtube and look up some basic xcm cuts. These simple cuts are not hard to follow and can give you a nice base for more complex flourishes.

no, I would not bash you for it. But should he be going on youtube for anything more than, say, a pressure fan.. then maybe theres a problem.

as for learning more things.. it might help to look in the flourishes101 section in the trilogy. if that doesn't fly well, then I can whip up a vid for some basic cuts and fans if you PM me.

best of luck
Marc

EDIT: practice is always key. just keep a deck with you all the time. you wiLL screw up... no doubt about it and you wiLL be picking up a good many pack of cards, but don't let it kill your interest.

I just figured a few basic xcm tutorials might be able to get him started. I don't feel flourishing tutorials are a bad thing in anyway, unless they are not yours to teach.

Learn the one hand revolution. I use this cut more than anything (as a part of other cuts).

Xtreme Beginners by Devo is such a great resource for beginners. It got me going. You learn some great stuff in that. The second disk is amazing for learning how to fan. Jerry teaches you all the basic types of fans, and with a lot of detail.

I love it

i personally hated XB... but if you wanna learn sybil i would look up cardshark88's tutorial on youtube under the title 2 handed cuts. Thats how i got started. You wont learn sybil at first but it will get you used to holding the packets in the unique way that you do for sybil. It is broken up into several parts, each one building on the last and i think at part 3 you get to the actual sybil cut. Its very easy to follow and couldnt be broken down any more.

Hope that helps.

If you want to become good at flourishing I highly suggest Xtreme Beginnerz Vol. 1. It teaches you basics that you will need for more advanced flourishes. Trilogy and Dangerous Motion are a little more advanced. As for learning a sybil, I learned from Trilogy and you said you were having trouble and I had the same problem. Just keep watching the version in Trilogy and in the end you'll get it.

The thing I'd HIGHLY reccomend over all this other crap is the Encyclopedia of Flourishing. It's 500 pages long. Lot's of useful material to get you started. And don't forget, you don't have to pay for everything, there's some great free stuff out there as well. Look at the thread in this topic called 'sources for flourishing.' Try and learn some of that.

I feel your pain (sort of) about the trilogy thing. When I watched the trilogy for the first time (a long time ago) I had only been into cardistry a few months and didn't really know a lot; so it was fairly hard to me.
But don't worry, just put in an unbelievable amount of practice and you'll eventually get there. And one of the most important things to know when your a beginner; you don't truly realize how much more there is to learn until you start to get somewhat good. Seriously, once you've been doing it for 3 or 4 years, you'll still be like wow I got to get practicing still. Plus, you have to remember, cardistry is an art, and just like magic, you have to embrace it. Practicing 2 hours a day probably isn't going to get you anywhere. If possible, try to squeeze in 5-10 hours of practice. Just as much as possible.

Anyways, if you really want to learn a proper sybil, taught pretty slowly, here:

Hey man, Lethal is no place to start on flourishing. Also, you need to be willing to put time and effort into something. You can say "I am dedicated" to me all day, but are you really? I remember when I sat down at my desk for a few hours just to learn the basic Sybil cut from the Trilogy's 101 section. That is what it will take. I'm not saying you have to learn it from there, but to learn these cuts, you will have to watch these videos over.... and over.... and over... and over.... and over again.

It is frustrating, but that is the way it goes. Starting on something a bit more advanced such as Lethal is no way to start out. I recommend the Card College books and The Royal Road to Card Magic. I recommend the Everything Else disc from the Trilogy. I heard Dangerous has some better teaching than Lethal. (Dangerous has almost everything that Lethal has.)

Shelling out a bunch of money on an advanced disc before you have the basics down will only slow down your progress. Once you get good enough, flourishes will come to you a lot easier. (They will still be difficult, but you will learn them a lot easier.)
