So I ordered a 2-pack of black back Rider Backs (they were specifically advertised as true 808 Rider Backs) and ended up receiving black Standards instead. I was getting ready to return them, but the color is really off and keeps me from returning them until I do some research. The main border color of the 2 boxes that I received is def. a gray and not black. From all of the pictures that I can see online of black Standard and black 808 boxes, the main border color is most def. a deep black. Also, the last time I saw a box of black Standards in person (this was years ago mind you), I remember the color being a deep black as well and not a gray.
Does anyone know anything about these boxes? I haven't yet opened one of the packs to see what the actual card back looks like, just because I don't want to open anything that could be considered more collectible. The main color of the border is def a flat gray, then the gray color is outlined by a gold strip, which is then outlined with a black stripe, and then another gold stripe outlining the entire image...this same colorization is on the side and top flaps. And then the picture of a card on the back image seems to be a regular black color Rider Back design. The bottom flap shows a date of 2013, and is from the Kentucky factory.
Now it very could be, that Bicycle just uses a gray color on the box because of a cost issue...But again, the collector in me would like to make sure it isn't anything special before I either return these or open them. I attached some pics...hopefully they are clear enough to be able to really see the color and tell it is not black. Oh and one last thing to note, the seals are black and they have the tear off strip to quickly remove the plastic wrap (like the Gold Standards have).
