Hey everyone, I've always been a fan of coin magic but I've never applied myself. I'm finally getting into it and liking what I'm finding.

My question has to do with Old American Silver dollars. They seem to be a popular choice among coin magicians for their look, size and sound. What I have found with mine is they are a bit "waxy" to the touch. They don't slide very well. They are all circa 1900 coins, so I don't want to ruin them, but is there a way to treat them or clean them so they slide more freely? As is my fingers feel a bit sticky each time I work with them, is that normal?

Any silver polish will do; I have a silver polishing cloth I bought at the supermarket that works just fine. Also, toothpaste, ketchup and lemon juice all work, and haven't seemed to damage any of my coins so far.

Collectors like coins with patina on them, but I prefer mine to be clean and shiny. Aside from feeling better in my hands, they shininess seems to attract the eye more.
