RESTORED – Lloyd Barnes
The Effect
A Torn and Restored (TNR) card
Method Requires A Duplicate Card, which allows for a front and back restoration. Some people do not like using a “dup,” but being able to show the front and back throughout the routine outweighs any cons. Signing the card is not an option and frankly, other than magicians, nobody cares.
There is a little bit of finger palming that needs to take place, but nothing overly complicated with just a little practice. Anyone will be able to get this down fairly quickly.
Out of every TNR I’ve tried this has to be the easiest one to get through. That doesn’t mean you should download this and in 1 day go show it to everyone. Put the time and effort into this that it deserves to make all the phases flow fluidly.
The Tearing Phase / Sequence
As with all tearing phases in TNR effects, you really need to “sell” some of the ripping both visually and audibly using your thumb or the spectator will not believe you for one second. This is something I have a hard time looking past in any method of TNR. This for me makes or breaks the effect. Lloyd does a fairly decent job of creating the illusion of the pieces getting ripped off during the routine.
The Restoration Phases
This looks perfect and Lloyd includes some subtleties that are crucial to making this look just as it should. He takes the time to show where every finger should go and what portions of the pieces need covered or shown. The last piece is awesome how everything works and is then handed out with the dirty hand, which is what Garcia taught in Torn I believe.
Ending of the Video / Crediting I really like how Lloyd described his inspiration and gave credit to where credit was due. Many guys would have not even included this and I was glad he did. This proves that Lloyd put in the time and effort to get his TNR where it is today. Job well done Lloyd and major props for including your history with this TNR.
Video Quality The video is shot over the shoulder with a close up of the hands and cards. It is very easy to follow along with your own card in your hands. One thing that seemed a bit odd is that the table or board that the shot was framed in on, was almost a flesh color like Lloyd’s hands / arms. This may be me just being a bit picky, but in the future Lloyd may want to consider using something different that contrasts a bit more like a dark close up pad.
Duration of Download: 20 minutes of in depth instruction with clear concise directions. Lloyd does an OUTSTANDING job and goes over everything perfectly. It is not rushed at all.
Note: This is part of Lloyd’s “The Gift” or can also be purchased separately in a few other locations. However you purchase this, IT DOES NOT MATTER….BECAUSE THIS THING IS WORTH WAY MORE THAN WHAT HE IS SELLING IT FOR!
