I am trying out different "formats" of tricks. Coins, card, ext. I am curious about rope tricks or rubber band tricks. How are these? Also, vote for what type of magic is most awe inspiring.

I think coin effects, when performed correctly, can be the most "awe inspiring". When a spectator sees you do the impossible with an object that they use everyday of their life, and can sometimes even be borrowed from them, that's the most effective kind of magic. Not alot of people are as familiar with cards as others are, so there can be a hole in your performance if you're performing for someone who isn't familiar with cards. Coins are a universal object, they are used in every city, of every state, of every country, of every continent, so they are more effective magic wise in my opinion.

Well, since i only do card magic i must say card magic =D. I used to do all the magic you could possibly do. But I subsided to cards. I must say when you take there card place it into the middle and it goes to the top. It's just out of the world to specs.

I would have to say other. I love cards and it's what I've been practicing, however, most people know if you do something with cards or coins... it's all sleights. When you do something amazing that does not involve cards or coins... I feel you are then getting into the real magic. That's why I'm a fan of effects such as Stigmata. Loops are also great. Making someone's glasses stand up is awesome!

Cards and coins are great. Rope and rubber bands can be pretty entertaining too, however, I just feel magic with everyday objects other than money and cards is the best you can get.

Thx

Thx for sharing your opinions. I think all of them are great and will have to think hard in order to choose which to specialize in if not all. Thank you for contributing! Keep posting if you have any more to say.

im sorry, but this is a stupid question.

it doesnt matter AT ALL what type of trick you do
it all matters on youre presentation and how you get youre audience involved

If your going to do Rope,

Richard Sanders - Fibreoptics.

Best.
Ever.

I agree, I bought this dvd a few weeks to a month ago. As for rubber bands you might want to think about buy some pdfs with closeup work in it with some rubber bands. I keep wanting to try Daniel Garcia's rubber band effect found in his NEXT PDFs but never have any rubber bands. The joining is a 5 dollar pdf for ring to rubberband. impromptu everything can be borrowed. good stuff.

I'm sorry, but there's no such thing as a stupid question. He's OBVIOUSLY a beginner, and he's looking for some help. So why don't you do us all a favor and try to answer the question politely instead of being a jerk?

I chose other...I have to say that while coins and cards and sleights are wonderful and you can really amaze people with them...theres not much like "the purity of mentalism" to steal a quote from Jay Sankey. Mentalism connects with the spectator and gets them involved on a very deep level.

I'd say that cards are at the top of the amaze chain, closely followed by coins.
I'm personally not interseted in rope magic to any extent, and I'd like to see something inspiring for rubber bands.
