SMOKE 1.0- Help removing gimmick

I've recently bought the original SMOKE gimmick. I can remove the cap but I can't seem to get the nib section out, it twists but is too stiff to pull out. I don't want to damage the gimmick so has anybody got any suggestions for how to get it out?
