Smoke

I'd like to get smoke but there's a couple things I'm worried about. He doesn't talk at all during the trailer, is it possible to be talking then a minute later produce the smoke then speak right after? Also I noticed someone mentioned the sharpie cap in a previous thread about smoke, can it be done without any props such as a sharpie? Select a card, blow smoke, do a visual card change through the smoke for example.

Hope someone can help as I don't want to spend money on something I won't actually use.

It comes with a gimmick that you need to blow the smoke out, you cannot just do it out of nowhere, and you cannot talk right before you blow the smoke out, but you can talk after.

Can you give me some sort of time period? Like with portal he must speak at the beginning to explain the effect so how long is the transition between being able to speak and not?

You can speak directly following the expelling of the smoke.

Yes, Verbalak said that but I also want to know how long I have to remain silent before doing whatever has to be done with the gimmick.

You can do it immediately, or you can wait. This COMPLETELY depends on your routine. In most cases, the longer the better (within reason), but the effect will not change.
