Does anyone know why on the on the bottom of the Split Spade Lions box it says "first edition"? Does this have any thing to do with Theory 11 getting an advanced supply?

It's very possible. If it does say that, I would hang on to them for a while because chances are they will be worth something in the future.

Thats probably why....or if he makes a second edition then you can distinguish the two.
