You little stalker!
What is it? i know this sounds like the most noobiest question ever, and it probably is, but i really dont understand it. i hear people talk about how they like someone's style or they hate someone's style. Especially in Joradn Lapping's performance of Jackson5, they all love him cuz of his style in the cut but i really don't see much difference in it than dan and dave's version so could someone plz explain this to me?

Not a n00b question at all, you're actually just misunderstanding the use of the word "style", When people on here or DN talk about "style" they're really just talking about editing style, not the style of moves and stuff, if the style was based on the moves everybody would have the same style!

Style...

What is it?

Deffinition

noun, verb styled, styl·ing.
–noun
1. a particular kind, sort, or type, as with reference to form, appearance, or character: the baroque style; The style of the house was too austere for their liking.
2. a particular, distinctive, or characteristic mode of action or manner of acting: They do these things in a grand style.
3. a mode of living, as with respect to expense or display.
4. an elegant, fashionable, or luxurious mode of living: to live in style.

My Beliefs

Alright, this is my belief on style. Style is something that represents WHO you are through WHAT you do. Simply buying a new deck of Jerry's won't make you any better.

Style isn't given. Style isn't bought. Style is earned.

Here's my beliefs on building style. As Andrei said in his Round Table Discussion, you must have to start with a strong base. I personally agree, and also believe that you can go further by mastering the basics and what you know. After you master the moves -like REALLY master it- Then your style will develop. You can't necessarily create or make style. I believe it's developed through the moves you do...

Example...

•Kevin Ho - His style is like no other. Same with anyone else. Yet, he goes around two-handed cuts, which is no problem. It's just what he started with.

•Andrei Jikh - He started with De'vo. Working on more XCM moves (not really XCM "style" since this is the topic).

From there, they both moved on. Great flourishers that have unique styles. Simply having a different background can change the development of your style.

Style won't come in a day, no matter how many times you flare your hands. That's not style... That's..... Flaring your hands...
Style is developed through your movements, and the uniqueness you add to them.

How can I develop the style I'll like?

Simple. Do moves you like! Some people won't appreciate your style, some will. As long as you're having fun, doing what you like (whether it'd be moves or just flat out flourishing), and being content. That's what it's all about.

That's what I believe.

I disagree, people can have different styles with their moves as well as having different styles of editing. Not everyones moves would look the same =P

The only person in this thread that understands style is Eugene.

Style is everything you do and how you do it. Style is the way you dress, the way you speak, what you do, how you do it, and so much much more. It's a way to express yourself in a way that makes you unique and stand out from everyone else. It's more than just editing or the way you move your hands, it's EVERYTHING...from presentation and creativity, to editing and hand motions.

It seems like more than any one single thing, style comes from a base in confidence.

If you are confident enough in your moves that it's like the technical aspect comes naturally... then you can focus on connecting with the audience, adding flare, personality etc.

Yeah. Eugene and Andrei pretty much summed it up. Style is everything you do. Like, Brian Tudor's style is to go insanly fast. Not quite the best style in my opinion but that's just MY style. I prefer to do moves insanly SMOOTH. Like Mr. Lapping. Hope this helped a little.

I love Daniel Madison's style. It is in my opinion the best. Fluid, smooth, lightning fast and laid back.

Style CAN vary widely based on cuts. If I were to describe Dan and Dave's style in one word, I would say rhythmic. If I were to describe dM's style, it would be fluid. Some people have ways of doing things where the cards are kept very close together, and some people prefer flourishes where you flail only a couple of cards around in a very visual manner.

It's all your preference.
