My Beliefs
Alright, this is my belief on style. Style is something that represents WHO you are through WHAT you do. Simply buying a new deck of Jerry's won't make you any better.
Style isn't given. Style isn't bought. Style is earned.
Here's my beliefs on building style. As Andrei said in his Round Table Discussion, you must have to start with a strong base. I personally agree, and also believe that you can go further by mastering the basics and what you know. After you master the moves -like REALLY master it- Then your style will develop. You can't necessarily create or make style. I believe it's developed through the moves you do...
Example...
•Kevin Ho - His style is like no other. Same with anyone else. Yet, he goes around two-handed cuts, which is no problem. It's just what he started with.
•Andrei Jikh - He started with De'vo. Working on more XCM moves (not really XCM "style" since this is the topic).
From there, they both moved on. Great flourishers that have unique styles. Simply having a different background can change the development of your style.
Style won't come in a day, no matter how many times you flare your hands. That's not style... That's..... Flaring your hands...
Style is developed through your movements, and the uniqueness you add to them.
How can I develop the style I'll like?
Simple. Do moves you like! Some people won't appreciate your style, some will. As long as you're having fun, doing what you like (whether it'd be moves or just flat out flourishing), and being content. That's what it's all about.
That's what I believe.
