Superman Coin Bend

The Official Spam-

The Magician approaches an unknowing spectator and asks, "Do you have a quarter on you today, Ma'am?" The spectator proceeds to look for change in her pocket. The Magician then prompts, "Could you please sign the coin for me before I take it from you." (The coin does not need to be signed, but it adds to the effect's finale.) At this point, the Magician takes the coin, holding it in view of the spectator, and says, "I'm going to try something here ... You know what? You may be able to do the same as I do. Do you have another quarter?" The spectator reaches into her pocket and retrieves another coin. The Magician, holds the signed, borrowed coin at the fingertips, and begins to rub the coin, saying, "Rub your coin like me. Can you see mine starting to bend?" The Magician finishes showing the bent coin, and immediately gives the coin to the spectator as a souvenir. The coin can now be fully examined.

Setup: 5/10

Obviously, this is not an impromptu effect, you have to have the "materials". But, as long as you have the "materials" on your person, setup literally takes about 3 seconds. It can be done in front of the spectators, and you don't have to worry about being "caught in the act."

Difficulty: 7/10

This effect is ingeniously simple. When I first bought it, I was expecting some complicated device that you have to wear on your person, or some ridiculously complicated coin switch and ditch, but boy was I wrong. This trick is so simple, it's almost self-working.

Reset: 10/10

The reset for this trick also takes about 3 seconds. You can do it in front of your spectators, and not worry about being caught. All you have to do is get a quarter out of your pocket... that is, if you're not borrowing a quarter.

Price: 7/10

I thought the price for this trick, like the Scotch and Soda Euro, was exactly the way it should be... cheap enough for the pros, yet expensive enough to keep all the YouTube kiddies away. Although some say, "I don't want to pay $35 for one trick," they underestimate the power of this. And, in the great words of Gazzo, "Pros can't be cheap."

Pros:

- Very hard-hitting.

- Coin can be signed unlike most other coin bends.

- Coin is borrowed.

- Gimmick takes up very little pocket space.

- Setup/reset can be done in front of your spectators.

Cons:

- Spectators may ask you to do it again sometime else... in this case I recommend learning something like the Closer, which obviously doesn't requre gimmicks because it's an instant download.

- If you do it without sleeves, you do not end completely clean, but the gimmick can be easily ditched.

Overall: 8/10

I'm going to be brutally honest... I couldn't wait to get my hands on this little beauty. It's just plain awesome. The best part for me is it can be done with any borrowed and signed coin, almost anytime, anywhere. It's absolutely perfect for walk-around, because the gimmick "blends in" (owners know what I mean), and takes up very little pocket space.

You have some very nice reviews. I don't use the superman coin bend in my performances at all, I use it beforehand. It's a nice item but I couldn't see myself using the actual gimmick in performance.

I'm glad you guys liked it. I use the gimmick in performance a lot, because you can have the spectator hold the unbent coin and sign it. Especially if you do it with sleeves so you can end clean. Great effect.

Great Effect!

About a year ago I did a Charity event at a Gym in North Carolina. I got a few guys from the ellusionist forums who lived near by to come out and perform with me. A young kid named "Haydini" showed up. This kid was the epitome of small. Imagine a bunch of hard core power lifters ( I was the smallest , for those who have seen me) Little Haydini had them DYING with the superman coin bend. It was the hit of the day. Great effect, I bought one the next day.

That's cool :)

I never liked Hayini's performances, he has a lot and it has seemed like it all has been bland throughout everything (presentation, showmanship, and the like), hope he improves :)

I'm glad you really like it! I perform this all of the time! It is without a doubt one of my favorite effects that i've come across. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves impromptu effects with coins. I did this one time about 2 years ago at a gym place, where they had power lifters etc. and i did this and they seemed blown away!

It is double the funny when you were as small as i was back then :D

I just did this in school about a week ago (people ask me to bend quarters all the time). The kid in front of me freaked out. I didn't really make a performance out of it, because the last time I did it in that class (for a different person, of course), it got passed all around the classroom and caused a ruckus. Needless to say, the teacher got a little bit mad because I disrupted the class. But this or just a simple Bobo Switch are a lot of fun in school!

That's why you should do magic during lunch or in between classes ;-) Thats when i do magic, or after school. But a majority of the time, surprisingly, i do most of my magic at school to my entire class because my teacher asks me! Tomorrow is "Haydini Day" In 5th period, so i get to sped an entire class period doing magic :-D!!!

I wish my teachers were that willing, but most of the time when the teacher is out for a few minutes I try and limit my tricks down and practice patter and my performance for table hopping. Also when I do them I want something for them each week. One time we had a sub and I performed maybe like 20 tricks in that class on accident because I was so involved with everything, anyway I was suspended that day for one day because I was using cards in class because word spread to administrators in like fifteen minutes after class. Back to superman, I only have long sleeves when doing table hopping since I live in the south and it is almost always hot down here. I do like to do the bend very quickly and then ditch them when i take my cell out and put them back in and then act like I do it. This really helps me work on my misdirection.
