I’m going to try doing a weekly review of sorts every Tuesday. Just because Tuesday is really the only day that sounds catchy with ‘Tenyo’.

I love prop based magic. Especially Tenyo Magic. I think it’s an absolute blast creating routines and sets around entire prop based effects. And I believe that some of you may find some use in some of these diabolical little things. This is my first review, so if I need to make improvements for next Tuesday, let me know.

I will say that I had 3 reviews written already, but the other two had some things that I really wasn’t comfortable with, considering this being the ‘first of’ in a series of reviews. I want to be able to have a good thing going first before I post those.

So let’s start with a safe one!

CONTENTS:

- One….pen. And instructions. THAT’S IT! Seriously I’m not hiding anything. It’s really just one pen.

REVIEW:

I like ‘Pen. It’s better than bad, it’s GOOD! Here’s the thing, it’s the only ‘pen through’ prop I have. But if you’ve never owned a ‘pen through’ prop, you’ll probably need a good reason to why this one is the only one you should own instead of going off of me gushing about it.

Here’s how the effect works: You take a pen and you jam it through a paper or paper money. Could even be a signed paper or paper money; you could even have the audience sign the paper or bill WITH the pen. However. You, the magician, are capable of removing the pen and restoring the paper or bill instantly!

Because that would be completely rude of you to just leave a hole there.

Now, right out of the box, you’re going to be taken aback as it will appear that you have purchased the most expensive office pen in the world.
As if you got led into buying a pet rock and realized that *gasp* it was a rock THE WHOLE TIME.
But that’s the beauty of the Ultimate Shocking Pen! It really does look like a regular sleek black office pen. Not to sound like I’m selling snake oil or something.
From what I have been reading about these sort of ‘pens’, there a distinct characteristic that makes this pen stand out from other ‘pen-through’ effects:

- A locking mechanism.

And not just any locking mechanism. It’s one that can be utilized in a natural way during a performance.
And because of this mechanism, you are able to have the audience examine the pen. AND you are able to do an entire routine with the same pen. Sounds like a winner to me!

ARE THERE ISSUES I SHOULD KNOW?: It has about the same thickness and sturdiness as a regular pen. As a whole, it will go the distance.

IS IT HARD TO FIND?: It’s slowly becoming less common in magic shops.

SHOULD I BUY NEW OR USED?: It’s easier to find new at this point, I don’t see a whole lot of these go up for used. In fact, it’s rather RARE to find one go for used. That, to me, speaks volumes.

WHO WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS TO?: This is perfect for impromptu! Keep it in your jacket, in your house. As long as it is on you (or know where it’s in your living space), you’re ready to go at any time. You could perform this SURROUNDED and you won’t have to worry about a thing. This is one of the few Tenyo that I would recommend for busking, strolling, and impromptu.

The goal here is shock and surprise. And Ultimate Shocking Pen really does just that. It’s a very strong effect. And one of the best Tenyo buys still on the market. If you’re going get any ‘pen-through’ prop, THIS is the one you get.

Amazing review! Now I want to get that pen, being a tenyo fan myself.

By the way, do you have the Magic Memo Pad where the performer rubs a coin into a doodle of a basket on a notepad?

I actually just received Magic Memo Pad last week from a good friend. I haven't been able to test it out completely, aside from working the gimmick. But looking at what it can do, it looks promising.

It's not like 'Money Splash', is all in saying
