I say the illusionist because even though the effects seem edited (lol they are)
there based off of real tricks like the handkerchief and the butterfly's its an actual trick the only thing is in the movie the effects were enhanced but love the story line:)

I also watched only Prestige, and it is a great movie. Nikola Tesla was born in my country btw. :)

Dont forget Shade, it has some magic in it too ;)

OK, Paul Giamatti is damn awesome, but that does not stop the fact that the overall movie was mediocre, as far as motion pictures go. The acting was stiff, the characters derivative--a movie can't survive on a good concept by itself. The Illusionist could have been much better--it could have done more.

Now in the prestige, Christopher Nolan created a very compelling storyline and a believable world so that by the end, he had you reeled in. The acting was perfect since everyone was in a role that fit them.

Because of its ambiguities, The Prestige felt less forced, whereas The Illusionist felt that it had to explain everything (yeah, The Prestige explained some stuff, but there was still plenty that was left up to the audience). In the end, The Illusionist doesn't leave the audience with anything. The Prestige provokes the audience.

Prestige all the way because the Prestige is like magic, while the illusionist is like spirits.

The hell? The Spritualist movement of the 1800's has inseparable ties with magic and mentalism.

Anyway, I hate comparing the two movies.

The Illusionist was a romance, both in genre and in artistic execution. It harkened to Romantic notions of rebellion, emotion, and belief. I also think it had, in general, the better cast. Paul Giamatti stole the show on this one.

The Prestige had the better story however. Christopher Nolan is notorious for his labyrinthine plots, themes, and motifs. The ending was truly unexpected, and it tied together the overall themes very nicely.

Both were backed by well-researched historical context and had superb art direction.

It honestly depends on what you are in to. The Illusionist is more real magic whereas, the prestige is magic "tricks."

I myself LOVE the prestige. It is just such a good movie and has somepretty F'd up twists. Sorry for the language. It just really took me by surprise and kept me compelled. the only thing though, was it revealed some cool tricks.

Both of them are beautiful movies, both in writing and cinematography. The "magic" was there in both of them, and I love them both. I wouldn't take the side of one because they are very different, but after watching one of them, I tend to like that one better for the time being.

They're both great, they really are. It's hard to compare them, really, as they have two completely different motives.

I'll have to say The Prestige, though.
