Hey everyone, i recently picked up "The Rice Paper's" by home liwag. These are a set of unpublished and unseen lecture notes. He had originally designed these notes for a lecture with a few other magicians, however the lecture ended up being cancelled and the notes never released. The were being sold on his site, i dont know if they still are i just checked and it looks like he's making some changes well, with that, lets get into the notes.

included are three effects that reflect classic Homer magic with some great visual routines.

Packaging
the notes come in a small booklet. Within are sketches and explanations. The sketches are very detailed and the handlings are clearly diagramed. It all reminds me a lot of TOOC.

first trick
Body Contact
The effect
A Large, glass "Contact lens" is magically produced from your right eye. The contact is dropped into a pocket. Even though the hands seem to be empty, a pair of eye glasses appear at the performer's finger tips.
i like this routine, it flows really well and seems so casual that your audience get his before they know what they are watching. while i dont wear glasses it do carry my sun glasses a lot during the summer. the handlings are all so variable that you can build so many routines and effect of of this and the rest ive already started experimenting with other ideas

trick numero dos
All fogged Up
the effect
A card is selected and lost in the pack. The bottom card of the deck is shown to be blank. Being merely "fogged" up, the selection is caused to mysteriously and slowly appear on the blank card, magically materializing from the middle out towards the pips.
Again a really nice and visual trick. For those of you who like doing crazy revelations and slow visual changes this is gonna be great. There isn't really any gimmick and minimal setup but its worth it. The card really does look like its slowly clearing away fog. i tried this one on a friend already and had to examine the card afterward. love this trick and cant wait to use the concept for alternative reveals.

trick number 3
Marksmanship
the effect
A marker is extracted out of its own cap. The marker is given to a spectator to sign a card, bill or anything the routine calls for. Upon retrieving the marker, a large steel ball bearing is dropped from the tip. Afterwards, the marker visually changes into a larger one
I LOVE this effect, its one of the main reasons i bought these notes. For those of you who havent seen this routine ive included a link below. Homer's handling of this trick is great and so clean that your spectator will have to pick up there jaw after your done. Its a great opener and anyone that likes to have their spec sign cards should definitely include this with their routine. The effect is soo flexible that you can do it with almost anything and what you need to carry with you i guarantee you 99% of you already do. I love this effect and cant stop working on it. It goes great with Recapped from the AoA books and flows really well with almost any routine you want to do with pens or signing objects. I can see myself using this with SINFUL too when they sign the coin

The teaching
the teaching is amazing and detailed as i have come to expect from Homer. He goes over everything in his writing and the sketches reinforce every move. The moves themselves are overly hard and are fun to practice. He states from the beginning that his explanations are meant as launching platforms for which you can create your own variations of the effects and i have to say that there are endless possibilities.

summary
overall there are 3 great effects within the notes and i can see myself using all of them. It is clear what Homer means when he says that he was influenced by Paul Harris's work and if you are into magic with everyday objects or just want to mix up your routine with stuff besides cards or coins i would definitely try and pick up this soon. Especially with him selling it for only $14.95. Homer includes some idea's about on the spot performancs of the routines as well as his story of how the "Rice Paper's" came about. Overall i was very pleased with the notes and im glad i picked them up. I love Homer's work and cant wait to see what he comes out with in the future.

hope you enjoyed
any questions feel free to PM

cheers ~josh
