I recently got into card magic about 3 month ago. I have nailed an assortment of flourishes, lifts, and passes dedicating about 6+ hours a day to the art form.

I saw Lee Asher's, Thunderbird: Modern Ace Production last night and bought it today.

This trick was my first "card magic" purchase, and I must say I am very pleased.

Graded on a 5/5 scale. 5 being the best, 1 being the worst.

The Instructions: 4/5
This trick comes in a pdf format with 2 video attachments that help guide you as you read and mimic the picture actions. The downside to this is that you don't have an HD quality DvD explaining the trick, instead you settle for a printable instruction manual and a 100x100 video with no speech. This isn't a big deal because the printable instructions and the itty-bitty video is all you need to get this trick going.

The Effect: 4/5
Pro: This is a great card production trick that is visually stunning and gratifying.

Con: The effect for this is very angle sensitive but if you know positioning or follow the positioning tips on the instructions you shouldn't have a problem.

The Method: 4/5
The method is great considering this is no gimmick trick and can be done with a borrowed deck of cards. The downside to the the method is that the bigger your hands are, the easier the trick becomes. Even with that said, this is truly a great sleight effect that can work wonders if mastered.

Impromptu-ism: 4/5
This trick is pretty "on the fly" for the most part. The only setup required is that you have the four cards of your choice set aside to begin the production. Once you have that the rest is left to your Tenkai palming techniques.

The Extra: 5/5
The pdf file offers really nice and helpful tips to aide your routine and it also provides other trick ideas and transitions.

Overall: 4/5
This is a wonderful effect that requires a bit of practice but is completely doable with patience and a steady hand. I would recommend buying the trick if a card production effect intrigues you at all. This is money well spent!

By the way, this was my first post on these forums as well as my first product review. Let me know what you guys think.

thanks

Good Review. I have been thinking about picking this one up. I wouldn't recommend exposing even a part of the trick as you did by mentioning the Tenkai Palming technique in future posts as it irritates magicians, even though it's the equivelant of saying I did a double lift. Just a thought. Overall, I appreciate the information.

On Lee Asher's website in the Table of Contents section of the Thunderbird he says the tenkai palm is the core technique, so I don't think that was exposure.
Anyways, Nice review; Short, sweet, and to the point.

Thank you for the feedback guys.

I didn't want to reveal much as to how it was done but on Lee's website it does mention the Tenkai palming technique as a core part of the trick.

By the way, after a few hours, I am now proud to say I can do the ThunderBird with relative ease. Just practice, practice, practice!

pure awesome

Thunderbird is simply amazing. I highly, highly recomend getting this effect. Don't get discouraged because its in a pdf format. I know it can be difficult to learn an effect by reading it and looking at pics, but there is a video that is shown that will show every nuance. I perform this trick in front of the mirror over and over until my hands hurt. every time i do this production for someone they do that nervous laugh that all of us magicians love to here. One of my fave productions to do. GET IT 11/10
