The video explains why I'm posting this here. Essentially this is an old trick I used to do and I've stopped doing because I don't think it makes sense.

I don't really have any ideas on how it could make more sense but a cool thing to do would be to have the selected card in the 8's position and the 8 is set apart from the pack.

Take Aaron's idea a step further. Use your favorite double card concealment to seemingly "remove" the eight, and have the selected card in the position where the eight should be. It could be a mash up between this trick and Chris Kenner's 5 Speed. You could also retool the trick to somehow ditch the eight, or you could use fewer cards. Look at the design of the trick, and decide which elements you want to change. Maybe use less cards e.g. the 4 aces or kings. Just some thoughts. Good Luck!

This effect doesn't seem very effective, you can't make it seem logical without altering the handling some way or the other. I recommend you take a look at an effect called "Diamond cut Diamond" by David Solomon, it is very similar to the trick that you just did and makes a lot of sense as well as allowing you to expand your presentation even further, I perform Diamond cut Diamond whenever I'm sitting down at a table with someone and they asked to see some card magic. I hope I helped you, please let me know.

I'm glad you guy's agree that it makes no sense! I'll certainly play with your ideas and see what happens, maybe I'll post another video of the end result.
