Is it impromtu? I forgot to mention it must be impromtu

Not to the best of my knowledge.

Are you one of those "purists" or something? Because you shouldn't be.

But if you're looking for a really good reset routine, check out Kevin Ho's Smooth Operations.

That one in Kev's book is very good and for me, probably the best trick from there.

And what's wrong with being a "purist"?

I know punk'd I just dont like it to much. What is wrong with being a purist?

You're just limiting yourself, that's all. I mean, I generally don't use gimmicks because I just don't do those tricks, but when I do, they're great. There's really no good reason to be abjectly against them.

I am not 100% purist id say like 95 % becuase there are some things I use that involove gimmicks. I am trying to get into some gimmicked stuff that is why I am going to buy tagged and universal impression:). Also its not like if I se it uses a gimmick I dont even bother looking at it , its just id rather go impromtu over gimmick, if the effect looks amazing [ like tagged ] and it does involve a gimmick I will still get it:)
Thank You

For anyone who doesn't know, reset is an effect originated by Paul Harris, based on a couple other ideas. It is, at it's core, a double transposition of two four of a kind's. Say for instance, the four aces transpose with the four kings, which are usually isolated in front of the spec', then transpose back so the magician is left once again holding the aces.

I love the Harris original, very nice.

Nate Gibson has some very nice touches on the effect, as does Greg Wilson, Chad Long, David Harkey, and R. Paul Wilson's is very nice visually. Not 'pure' though, although I don't see what difference that makes.

Ah, I was getting mixed up because of Chris Kenner's Twister, a cross between a twisting the aces and a reset. My bad. ;)

You want a visual Reset? Wait for DM to release Change and do it with 4 cards, twice. Easy as pie.

Zenneth Kok has some interesting ideas on reset, including this one which has a very visual "reset" at the end:

Cheers,

The funny thing is that when I saw this effect for this first time, I didn't get what was supposed to happen, plain confusing.

But again, the video had no patter in it.
EDIT: Just re-watched it, lots of unjustified moves, the deck is in play which is a big con, color changes when the card is changed on the deck puts some heat on the deck, mulitple changes puts lots of unneeded heat. Also, the final ace revelation kinda of broke the rhythm.

While it might work for some, there are much better versions out there, in my personal opinion.

Also, some magicians tend to focus on some extremely visual, forgetting that the magic happens to in the mind, not the eyes. The eyes are stimuli, and not the only ones.

There is no need for patter when everything is seen on the screen.
All the moves are justified, he takes a card and changes it. He finds the cards while shuffling, whats not justified?
When you perform a colour change, it is quite obvious that there will be heat on the deck.
The final ace revelation did seem slightly out of place but that doesn't mean it didn't work. For a layman anyway.
