Ive been doing magic for bout 1 year but practice all the time and am already doing shows. I can do any trick even advanced depending on the sleights but I can tackle most tricks.

pure effect is not an e-book. Also, don't give away effects that are not yours.

Pure Effect is for serious thought not really for someone starting out. If you payed for an ebook version you got swindled as the seller would have produced it illegally. The real book is going for 300 on ebay and I assume that you would have paid less for that. That alone should send up some serious flags.
Sankey has some nice stuff out if you are starting out as mechanically most of it is fairly easy but you will find something that you like. 22 blows to the head has some nice mental magic on it with cards and a little bit of mentalism in there aswell.

If you really like DVD's, I got alot of mileage out of John Guastaferros Brainstorm 2 DVD set. Very very cool tricks and not out of reach of an beginner intermediate performer. Have a look at it. Otherwise, go buy a book and you will quite literally get way more for your money.

I also prefer DVDs initially, but limiting yourself to that will greatly limit you magic ability. If you don't have it already, I recommend Art of Astonishment
Since nobody has mentioned it so far, I would suggest you look up some of Daniel Madisons stuff: http://www.danielmadison.co.uk/
He tackles both cards and some mentalism too so I guess it may fit your style.
