Why do you do "Magic"?

Just wanted top know why everyone else does it.

For me it was not for the attention but to give people the sensation that you get when someone does a trick to you. I remember when my father did a trick to me and I was amazed at what he did. I would never forget this feeling till this day. I love to see people jump back and there worries of the everyday world seem to fade away for just a brief moment. Sometimes you can make peoples day.

P.S.
Also, like to get the ladies as well.

Considering that most of the forum members (the young ones) are geeks with no social life (like me) I have to spend my time doing something.

But mostly I do it for the reactions which just give you so much satisfaction that it'll make up for all the practice.

I started out learning when I was 7 because I saw David Copperfield on TV. When I was around 10, I started performing for the kids in hospitals. And at the risk of sounding corny, seeing them forget about why they were there was more than worth the practice. And if you can make someone forget they are in a hospital, even for a short bit, I figured imagine what you can do for people who are perfectly healthy. Been hooked since.

I do "tricks" not magic. I do it to entertain people.

If your gunna get tech on us. Well then say "Sleight-of-hand", only reason I said magic is because that what people you perform call it.

It's just fun to see the amazement in someone's eyes. Since I know the trick, I can't be amazed by my own, so I guess I entertain myself by entertaining others.
Also, I get a reputation bonus by doing magic.
It's win-win.

what kind of tricks? i like tricks too one time i found like 300 POST-ITS in a box so i put post-its on every thing i saw ...poll,red car, blue car, wall, door, church,i even put one on a cops back that said, you guessed it "Police man".....but man we would laugh for hours after that trick.

another time i had to take care of a friends cat when she went away for a 3 day weekend so i took all her Framed photos from the wall and me and my friends reenacted (re took) every photo in her house and replaced them with ours.
When she got back she was like "Nice trick guys now wear is my parent's real wedding photo?"

I also "do Magic "and i love that more then any trick.

Haha! That's classic. :D

I do magic because I have control over the situation. I also love to make people feel confused and amazed or whatever.

I do magic because it's not easy, and i want to prove myself that i can do it. I allways love things that are called "hard, difficult, imposible, etc", that is why im practising classic pass lol. I cant say that i do it to amaze people, cause where i live (Serbia), people have gone trough 2 wars in last 10 years, and one of them (1992.) split country into 5 different countries. So people here are more interested in politics, money and just being able to survive. And when i try to do a trick, they dont react as well as people from other countries (i performed for Fracnh and Dutch people).
And another reason i do it it's because of the reason that the guy who posted this thread, sad.

I do magic because it's different! How many people did you know (before you got into magic) who could make a deck of cards vanish, stop their hearts, and fool the crap outta you?

Nobody!

I also do it to be different, and even though I've lost friends because of it, I've gained something that makes me so happy to do.

Because magic is, by nature, strange, and strange is beautiful. I really doubt anything I perform could wrench someone's soul or take them into another moment - but I enjoy performance art and enjoy expressing myself in such a way.

Because there's a tremendous amount of room for creativity in it. Yesterday, I came up with two false cuts I've never seen done before, and integrated them into a blind shuffle routine that maintains the top card on the deck. Now it can be inserted into any routine after controlling a card to the top of the deck. So I've created an extensive single trick that basically goes "force card, place on top of deck, blind shuffle, reverse card in deck, true shuffle, magical garbage performance, reveal card". I'll be performing this trick in front of thirty people at my local magic club this afternoon.

Using Guardians, of course.

Originally, I was learning card sleights to cheat at cards, but it only took me a few days to figure out that it was just much more fun to do card magic. With just a couple of simple sleights, you can do all kinds of things. There's only one slightly tricky move in the routine I'm doing today, and that's just because it makes a little noise... which I can cover up with patter.

I do magic just to amaze.

When you finish the trick perfectly the reaction on the spectator is priceless.

Sort of like a rush, rofl
