Anyone Ever Felt Like a Loser?

Loser? no, not really. I have a moment of shyness until i get the go ahead for performing. One i start actually performing for kids i"m not really friends with, i get into a groove(if you want to call it that) and I'm off. JuSt like i practice, I just do my routine.

No, you're not a loser, no one is. You are only a loser if you give up for being called the 'geeky magic kid.' Sure, always have cards and people comment on it, but listen people- If you want to be good at something (like magic) you gotta commit. I just tell people I'm committed. They respect that. As for the "popular" kids--ehh they like magic. One time a "popular" kid came up to me and brought me to his lunch table just to perform what he'd previously witnessed in class. Now i get- "HEY IT"S MAGIC MAN!" I can't complain about that. Kids know I do magic--hype for the talent show.

First you have to think to yourself "what makes these kids 'cooler' than me" I mean you have the same classes, you probably get the same grades, in all honesty these "cool" and "popular" kids are in that certain click just out of luck.

This is exactly what I didn't like about high school. I finally came to a point in my Junior year where I did not care where I was or who was going to listen. I took a chance, and actually talked to the "cool" kids.

Turns out, this batch of kids were just as awkward and scared of other people as I was.

Sure there are mean-spirited kids all over, chances are there are some at your school. But this is what I tell everyone; "For every ONE person who brings you down, there are at least FIVE people who have your back."

Don't let that ONE person determine who you are.

Take a chance... and Good Luck.

Don't worry about them. Almost everyone likes magic! People like to be entertained - popular or not - so that is why I perform for friends, Some people I have never met, and anyone who wants to have some fun. Don't feel like a loser. Just because someone is 'popular' doesn't mean they are some cool alien - kind - of - dude/gal who is from another planet. If you want to perform for someone, go do it! Whats the worst they can do - throw rotten tomatoes at you. I don't think so. Also, being popular is overated ;-)

Have you any idea how many friends I've made through magic? I've made so much connections through doing tricks. It's the PERFECT icebreaker for making friends (heck, it's good for girls, too... you get their attention).

It depends on if you do focus your entire life on magic. Because for me, magic is just a tool. I use it to meet new people, then after they've had enough fun, I drop the cards and I just start talking to them about other stuff. Then --what do you know-- you got some new friends right there.

If you're worried about magic making you look like a "geek", lay off magic for awhile. Start hanging out with some friends. Heck, you can still use magic to "break the ice" with new friends.

Just remember, life is made up of different elements. The key to life is BALANCE!

Okay, I'm starting to ramble and branching off to different stuff now, so I'll shut up.

Dude how the hell did you know?

about the question is yes I did feel like a loser, no just kidding, I say that outloud I tell that to all my friends, I might just out of nowhere say "Oh I am a loser" but never I found those words true, because it's a confidence thing, NEVER think of yourself as a loser. But you will be thought of as a loser if you will try to hang out with the cool kids, thats because they'll think you are a wannabe, you don't want to be that. I don't perform magic because I am not confident enough, and I don't really have the time at school, plus the teachers take away cards if they see them, all good arguments but if some one asks for a magic trick I am never backing down unless I am in bad situation i.e. performing angle sensitive tricks while surrounded. Plus are you asking for tips to get cool, thats kinda funny, because in a way you kind of are, but anyways that's pretty much everything. Oh anddon't be afraid to perform to the cool kids, they are cool because they are friendly, thus have a lot of friends, and are social, thus you always find them very interesting, and charismatic, which has to do with the 2 qualities above, and soem others.

Hye Guys,

So has anyone not wanted to perform magic to the 'cooler' or more popular kids in school because it is a 'sad' hobby, or you dont want people to think that you swpend all day long with cards and have no friends?

Sometimes i get that feeling, so ive neveer performed to the 'cool' or 'popular' people in school.

No I never have, I do magic for everyone is my school. Its probably one of the reasons
Im one of the more popular kids in my school. A lot of people think its cool, and from
what it seems like, I would work on changing your image, I've never heard of being made
fun of from magic. Just keep at it, be social, and have plenty of girl friends.... muahaha!

Wat makes these kids cooler than me? Their certain qualities: friendliness (a lot of friends), not shyness, sociality (if thats a word; when they are interesting to talk to), good sense of humour sometimes. But they are usually nice and easy to make friends with. Or at least in my school it is. But as you can see it's not much of a secret, simple but valuable qualities. Embody them, and you are set.

Well, I am one of the "cooler, more popular" kids in school BECAUSE of magic. :p God bless magic. (at least......my mommy says i'm cool....)

Don't mean to bring up a topic from like 2 weeks ago. I must say, don't worry if you think your "geeky" while performing. Don't have people try to change who you are while performing. If you like to act geeky or strange then do it, people like that stuff as well and you will get a few laughs. The thing is, don't be scared to perform. I know it's easy to say it then to do it, but there is a trick to overcome it. The trick is to work yourself up to the point where you are like "WOHOO! YEA, READY" get yourself pumped up. That is what I use to do and now everything is just normal to me when speaking infront of a lot of people or anything for that matter.

those kids are only popular because you arent confident in who you are.
who the hell cares what they think?

perform for them and you will become a cool kid......but they will CONSISTENTLY ask for you to show them a trick

how sad our world is

So based on the first post, I assume your still in high school. High school is a tough time, trying to fit in and all. I understand, been there done that. But why would you feel like a loser? With the demand of magic in the public latley with shows like Mindfreak and Phenomenon, magic is really at a peak. I'm sure even the "cool" kids would love to see some of your magic. You will learn later in life that most of these cool kids turn out to be the true losers.

I remember in high school I would do magic for kids all the time. They enjoyed it and it was fun for me as well. If you don't act confident, then they will see that and treat you like ****.

Who are these "cool" kids? I am assuming popular kids and jocks. You can't be scared of them. Who knows you might even make a couple new friends. Like I said, confidence is key.

You'll learn that in the real world, popularity doesn't really exist, and you have to be yourself. If your not yourself, then your just living a lie.

I think a lot of people say this constantly, but be yourself. There is no other character better than YOU.

Peace,
Ben

Magic seems to have become a way for kids to "look cool".

Amazing how everyone's reinforcing Mr Jamy Ian Swiss's remarks, yet attack him on his article.

Where has the art gone to?

Im in High School in Hong Kong. 'Cool' people, are the popular ones (you know, the ones that go clubbing, etc.) and they're the ones that think that if you do magic, then you're a sad person, i.e. no life, in basement all day palying with cards...

As i said, i have learnt from you guys, and if i present myself as someone who is NOT like that, then i'll be admired :D

Look at it like this... if you are doing something that you love then there is no way you should feel like a loser.

Most "popular" kids don't even care about there friends. They only care about themselves.

It is a great thing to love magic and try to move this art in a forward direction. If you ask me every kid out there working on new innovative card magic and flourishes should be proud that they are part the new generation of magic.

I have not done bad for myself, and I WAS the kid in school with a deck of cards in his hands all the time.
