Cringe: Performance

Cring, my man, don't know about the above posts, but I'm yet to see a good advice that makes things clear for you. I hope I can provide that.

You're one year in magic, the more you go into it, the more effective effects you will create. The effect you posted is very good, actually I made a very similar one as a UK magician called Simon Lovell. I'll PM you.

Creating magic at this level indicates that you're thinking, and this is a very good thing. Keep doing that as you learn more magic, Dai Vernon gave this advice: "Be natural, and use your head".

We wouldn't expect you to create the hottest trick, as you go in magic you will notice something as well, you will be re-inventing the wheel alot. However, don't be let down, have fun creating and performing, you'll sure be in for a treat.

I saw the other effects, there are good, as you go in magic and learn more effects, you will improve on your ideas if not create better ones.

Why releasing a preview? Are you going to sell it? or you're just hyping it to magicians? The first choice I won't recommend because you need to go in magic more, the second one is a very bad mentality, what do you expect from magicians? Recoginition? fame? Trust me, this is not the way to get it. Being a good magician that entertains his audience is.

Cheers mate,

To be honest its not a very powerful effect. It looks like it uses a double lift and then something else I wont say becouse I dont want to reveal ya trick. Well unless you are using a brand new method its not anything new.

JDEN

EDIT: After watching your other videos they aint nothing new either. P.S. Your invisable palm routine is not that flash.
The vid is better edited then yours..

hey cringe, its holo, i do that exact same trick. I personally like this trick because it leaves a ton of room for performance stuff.

advanced site??

If you do this trick in street magic, fine, that's cool that you get great reactions. But then don't post this trick on an advanced site like theory 11 where people here are looking for the best and most creative. You might want to put a performance of you doing this live to get a better review on it.

Well most of the people on theory11 are magic wannabes spending too much money on expensive dvds and cards. they are probably better at video editing then on actual magic, but when it comes to opinions they have many ( specially when it comes to card stock (??))

I do agree that your trick is very simple. But you have my credits for reinventing something and being creative. you are obviously unspoiled by this new generation of mtv magic. You claim also that your trick gets strong reactions.. well that is because of the ovelooked fact here that in the eyes of lay people there is no such thing as advanced or simple techinque.. it´s all in the effect.
Good luck!

just realised

Hello guys, M1ND here(who'd a thought? lol nevermind). I just thought I'd give my 2 cents on the subject at hand. Not the trick so much as the posts regarding the trick. This is a forum where people SHOULD be able to learn, but if you narcissists(or however you spell that word, I've never been good on that word spelling, forgive me for it) don't want that to happen, that you shun newer magicians just because they're trying to improve their magic, then so be it.

First, I'd like to take you guys back on a trip down memory lane. A trip back to your first year in magic. You were just like my man Cringe here. Now, you think you're better than that, but for those of you that haven't even come up with your own tricks yet, you're no better than Cringe. For those of you that have made tricks, and are better than Cringe, what gives you the right to just demean him like that? I mean, I know most of you are going to say "We're just giving him criticism". No, that's not what this is here for. You people that just criticise other performances JUST because you're better and it makes you feel good, well, you guys should just be ashamed. I mean, SERIOUSLY, this man here is trying to work on magic, but is he gonna get any better with you guys just saying crap like that? NO! Now, don't get me wrong, there's some people here that gave great reviews of the trick, and I'd like to get mine in later, but those that just yell at someone because they're not as good as you? Well, that's just pitiful right there.

And, don't demean a trick just because of spelling. Yes, it takes away the preview, but if you're gonna review Cringe poorly because he has a hard time with words, then that's dumb. Really, guys, I'm sure you all were just like Cringe before, but now that you're all high and mighty cause you can do Panic or Witness or any other trick perfectly, that gives you the right to go so harshly on someone's trick. I mean, I'm sure Cringe and I would both have been fine if you would say "Not a powerful trick, but here's a way to improve.....". I said myself also, because it just sickens me that fellow magicians can't get along because someone isn't as good as the other. Again, you guys should be ashamed.

Alright, my raging is done, I overdosed my pills(not really lol), and here's my review. Nothing quite new. Like others have said before. But, my advice, don't work on the new trick for say, work on a method that works for the trick. I mean that by like, instead of a double lift, create your own brand new method on doing the same thing, but less noticable by other magicians. Overall, 7.5 out of 10. =/

P.S. I'm not trying to make enemies here, and I'll prolly get flamed for saying what I said, but I'm just stating why most of you should be here in the first place. To help other magicians.

Except in my opinion, things like spelling matter. It's about professionalism. It shows that one cares. When something is misspelled, it takes away from the overall effect because it comes off as not thought out.

So don't think that I'm trying to say that the magic is less good just because of spelling errors. The presentation of the magic is less good. And magic is all about presentation (obviously).

Your "original" tricks actually have been done many times. Very basic. May look ok to a laymen but not too great. Although you are pretty average for someone so new to magic. Keep trying and maybe you could be a great magician one day. I have been in magic since I was 4, I kind of know how it feels to be new to magic.

"pretty average" ? Are we judging magicians here with words like "your good" "your average for someone new in magic" ... etc?!

Whats up with the attitude and this logic?

Cheers,

yeah. this guy on a differnt site. we made a trade and he put it in. do you like it

Let me give you some advice:

Don't try and hype up youyr magic with a name for your youtube account and logo and all that jazz. Doesn't make you any better in anyone's books, and makes you seem like a real tryhard.

Second, if you really HAVE to make a logo for some no apparent reason, USE YOUR OWN IMAGES. Not only is it illegal to copy someone else's (i.e. Linkin Park), but it looks DAMN unprofessional.

THird, if you really have to make a name for your youtube account, dont make it CRINGEMAGIC. Since you're having trouble with english (which I think is total bull****), when a person 'cringes', it's not a good think.
But I guess CRINGMAGIC is a good name, because I DID cringe when watching your 'magic'.

As for the trick...

The concept of a card switching places has been done before, but going further with the card turned over is something I haven't seen before. However, what is the purpose of the card flipping over? It adds no further 'magic' to the effect (or at least from the 'preview' it doesn't).

PLEASE DO NOT CALL YOUR VIDEOS "PREVIEWS". If you plan on realeasing this- HAHAHAH. You've got a lot to learn.

And the over-the-top editing is not needed for a performance. Nothing is being hyped up, and actually, the crappy english is making the trick even worse.

Spelling does matter. as "ben long" said, it's all about professionalism.

Why would he call it a "Preview" unless he wanted to hype it up, or do wahtever in an attempt at fame? Bad spelling mistakes are not exactly going to hye up his next video/tricks which have even more spelling mistakes!

Just don't edit videos, if a) you can't really spell b) you're editing is very poor.

In this case, it's both.

I'm seeing a lot of you guys saying stuff like: It'll fool laymen but not magicians.
Um... Why does this matter? Is an effect judged by how many magicians are fooled by it?
Cringe my man, I love it. Just because of the simplicity. I do many different versions of this all the time and reactions are phenomenal.
Here's a lesson to you guys: Simple is better.
Word.

It probably is, but a mistake in a forum post isn't the same as having multiple errors in a video of an effect you are promoting. If I was making a preview of a trick I would carefully check every aspect of it if I really cared about it and wanted people to take it seriously.
If I was correcting mistakes in his posts on the forum then your comment might be relevant, but I wasn't.

Yeah, it's ok man, I seem to notice irony a lot more than other people. Hehe. :)

As for the video...

To be honest, I don't think the effect deserves a preview. And I have to agree with Squ!rrel, the grammatical errors don't help to promote anything.

I found the flashes between the text and the video very annoying.

The effect isn't particularly original either...

And finally, I have a question;

How did you come up with the name "Cringe" for this trick?
It seems completely irrelevant.
