Right, I'm back! I'm going to keep it quite short, as it's a point that has been briefly touched upon by other people's replies, and because it's really quite simple.
*ahem*
Why do I perform to real breathing people? Is it because I want to improve my magic? Could it be because it makes me feel bigger among the magic community? Maybe it's because I want to be able to tell people I'm a magician without having to panic when they ask me to show them something. These are all perfectly valid reasons for wanting to get out of your bedroom and bring your hobby to the world. However this isn't why I, or (to my knowledge) most other people perform. It's much simpler than this:
it's because it's fun.
You may feel a great sense of satisfaction because you've finally got 100 subscribers and your Indecent performance (the magic trick, you goons
) has got a five star rating, but it's nothing compared to the feeling of complete ecstasy you receive the very first time you successfully load a coin under somebody's watch. Very little compares to the childish glee you feel as you slip the deck of cards into your pocket
right in front of their noses with them completely unaware that you're not still holding it. And I would give many a
"wtf that woz sik n u foold me L0LZ!!!1!" for the knowledge that, as I turn the two cards over as one, I am going to be getting another gig next month.
Not everybody can, or will perform for real people. You may be satisfied with the fact that some strangers may one day show your videos to their friends, and bet that
they can't work it out. If this makes you happy, good. Keep going. But until you've tried performing for somebody you've never met, and genuinely fooled them, you can have no idea what you're missing. Sometimes, you may fail. You may be caught more in person than on camera. But it's oh so worth it.
