This was the first magic book I've bought, and I have to say that it was exceptional. Mark Wilson's complete course gives you basic-intermediate knowledge of many types and styles of magic, on which you can build your skills. It explains basics in Card Magic, Rope Magic, Coin Magic and Mentalism, and can help you figure out which you prefer. Included are many classic effects, sleights, and prop ideas, with detailed illustrations as instruction. It has been worth more than its cost to me and other magicians, which is why I see it recommended so often.

Amazing book. His multiplying billiards balls is such an awesome routine, although may be a bit advanced for a beginner. However, the sooner the better :) A certain magician gave me some sound advice a while back, "don't jump forward when reading magic books, learn a trick each day"

Good luck with it, feel free to post and show off your new found skills :)

So, Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic was the first magic book I got. The effects in there are real magic and the beauty of it is the simplicity of many of the effects. It is easy to think "is that all there is to it?" As you read through the book, you will get an understanding of how magic effects are designed. You will learn principles of misdirection, one ahead and the power of the secrets.

There is so much material in that book from cards, to coins, bills, rope, sponge balls, billard balls, illusions and mentalism. I've done the The Bigger Card, Bill in Lemon , Tic Tac Toe, Three Way Test and so much more in shows. The more I learned about magic, the more I realized that the stuff in Complete Course is pure gold.

Good luck with it and let us know if you have any questions going through the material.

'Complete Course was one of the first books I have gone through. There's A LOT of material to thumb through and it spans across a lot of magic genres. It'll keep you busy!

If anything, it's a good measure to see what kind of magic you'd be interested in. And all the effects within that are great.
